Fantasy Flight Games will be producing games set in the Star Wars universe.

From their website:

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce that it has entered a comprehensive licensing partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd. for the worldwide rights to publish card, roleplaying, and miniatures games set in the popular Star Wars™ universe!

”Being able to publish gaming products in the Star Wars universe is quite simply a hobby-game company’s dream come true,” said Christian T Petersen, CEO of Fantasy Flight Games. “I’m confident that both Star Wars fans as well as FFG’s regular customers will be blown away by the game experiences we have planned for this legendary IP.”

“As a leader in hobby gaming, we’re excited to be partnering with Fantasy Flight Games,” said Howard Roffman, President of Lucas Licensing. “Fun and adventure are hallmarks of the Star Wars saga, and FFG perfectly captures this in their games.”

FFG’s first two Star Wars game lines will be the X-Wing miniatures game and Star Wars: The Card Game, both scheduled to launch in early 2012.

  • This is awesome, especially the Xwing game.

Now I would like a non-collectible rebellion era mini game.

  • PanzerKraken

    YES!

  • tredhed

    This so ROCKS!!!!

    • papasmrf667

I concur, very excited to see how these turn out

  • tredhed

Reading the description of the X-Wing game….it sounds very similar to Blue Max, Crimson Skies, Wings of War…..which I love all three. This sounds like a no brainer for me to buy into.

  • widgren

this will be awsome and expensive. the individual games might not be but ill be buying avarything the make of boardgames and mini-games. good times will be had by all!

  • I am pleased.

  • Sejanus

Wings of War in space…works for me.
Hopefully we can salvage the ships from the gawd awful mess that Wizards put out.

So that explains the WoW license and distribution going back to Nexus..who are now in liquidation mode. Now to figure out why Anima Tactics went back to Cipher Studios…what has FFG got up it’s sleeve.

As for the SW LCG I dunno. I am already into the LOTR one and that seems to fill that niche for me just fine.

Oh this reminds me..Kevin, you and the guys get plenty of pics at Gencon. 🙂

    Mah Pants!

    Sw: The Card game?

    not LCG?

X:wing; could we PLEASE keep it in Scale?

    • RogerMcDodger

      It is an LCG.

  • Scud

If it uses the same scale models as the Star Wars Starship Battles Miniature game then it’s a winner. Otherwise I’ll pass.

    • Doubtful, as FFG, I’m sure, will want your hard earned money purchasing their products.

However, nothing says you can’t use your own ships with their rules.

I look forward to what FFG produces with this license.

  • pbeccas

When they get around to the miniature game I hope there are no pre-paints. AND NO COLLECTABLE MINIS PLEEEASE.

    The X-Wing game looks good.

  • Scud

Well, It would be nice to have a use for all the Starship Battles minis again…

  • So the first two titles are classic trilogy… this makes me VERY happy about how they will handle the license.

Now… what are the odds we can get them to release a Flames Of War-style Galactic Rebellion miniatures game? 🙂

    • blkdymnd

completely and exactly what I was thinking! Star Wars flames of war or epic would be a dream come true.

    • what are the odds we can get them to release a Flames Of War-style Galactic
      Rebellion miniatures game? 🙂

That would get all of my money!

Why aren’t the block quotes working correctly?

      • Zac

They seem to be working fine.
