From the campaign:The Fellwater Tales is a new modern fantasy RPG game based on the novels. This game gives players over 3000 possibilities for unique characters, and the story has been compared to the works of authors such as George RR Martin.
“The Fellwater Tales” features characters who are caught in a conflict between rival factions of a secret society, whose members are descended from ancient gods. While dealing with their own personal problems, they also struggle to protect Fellwater Grove, one of the last remaining places on earth where the magic of the Mythic Age still survives. The “Secret People” of the “Hidden Houses”, as they are called, compete with each other for control of such places, just as political factions in the real world compete for control of sea ports, oil fields, and markets.
The Kickstarter project will create a tabletop roleplay game which takes place in the same world of the novels. It also includes a skill-based rules system designed to maximize the ways that players can customize their characters. Players choose between one of five “sources” or general world views, one of thirteen “lineages” or cultural backgrounds, and one or more (or all) of seven “paths” or occupations (comparable to "class"). This makes 3,185 possibilities - more, if players invent their own lineages.
Myers has initiated a fundraising campaign to raise the money needed to finish writing the text of the game, and to pay for the work of a whole team of artists, designers, and contributors. Backer rewards include copies of the novels on which the game is based, sneak-peeks at the work in progress, and a chance to contribute content to the finished product.
About the author: Brendan Myers, Ph.D., is the author of thirteen books, in fiction and nonfiction. He serves as a professor of philosophy at CEGEP Heritage College, in Gatineau, QC.
