Fantasy Flight Games talks about Organized Play with X-Wing Miniatures Game

Fantasy Flight Games is launching their new Star Wars Miniature Game, X-Wing and will be running some tournaments and demos at GenCon.

From their announcement:

This year at Gen Con Indy, Fantasy Flight Games Organized Play for X-Wing™ gets started with the inaugural Star Wars: X-Wing tournament!

In X-Wing, the miniatures game of tactical space combat, powerful Rebel X-wings collide with nimble Imperial TIE fighters. Whether you field rookie pilots or legends like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, the beautifully detailed miniatures and intuitive gameplay will immerse you in the game’s cinematic space dogfights. The epic space battles of X-Wing are designed to be every bit as dramatic and action-packed as those from the classic Star Wars trilogy, and the action is magnified when you play X-Wing as part of the game’s worldwide Organized Play community!

Gen Con Indy 2012

Players can launch into the fun at Gen Con Indy 2012. We’ll have the Core Set available from the moment the convention kicks off until we sell out. You can pick up your copy of the Core Set at the Fantasy Flight Games booth in the exhibition hall, and you can further bolster your fleet with additional pilots and starfighters from the X-Wing™ Expansion Pack, TIE Fighter™ Expansion Pack, Y-Wing™ Expansion Pack, and TIE Advanced™ Expansion Pack.

Attendees got a taste of the X-Wing action at Gen Con Indy 2011, where the demo tables were packed all weekend long.

Then, Friday morning, Gen Con Indy 2012 attendees gain the opportunity to participate in the world’s first X-Wing tournament!

Registration for the event begins at 10 am, and the action kicks into high gear by 11 am.

The tournament will be run as a head-to-head Dogfight, with asteroids.
Match rounds last seventy-five minutes.
Each player may choose to field a Rebel or Imperial fleet. Tournament seating ignores the player’s faction.
Each player should bring a pre-constructed fleet worth up to 100 points.
In the coming weeks, we will post the complete X-Wing tournament and game rules to the game’s support page.
Game Night Kits

After its launch, X-Wing will take its place among Fantasy Flight Games Organized Play. Players around the world will want to see the game’s exciting starfighter duels in action, learn to play, look closely at the detailed miniatures, and battle for control of the galaxy. X-Wing Game Night Kits will help players and retailers promote events, incentivize participation, and draw attendees.

X-Wing Game Night Kits can support demos and local leagues. They can also double as prize support for local tournaments while players perfect their fleets, develop formations, and hone their skills for the X-Wing World Championship tournament…
