Well, King Robert Baratheon is dead (uh… spoilers, I guess, for those that haven’t even seen the whole first season of a show that’s been out for years now). Now, the throne is up for grabs (I mean, really, nobody wants to give it to Joffrey) and so the great houses of Westeros are now gearing up for conflict while trying to also forge whatever alliances they can in order to improve their chances of putting the next person on the Iron Throne. That’s the story behind Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne, a new board game by Fantasy Flight Games.
In the game, players take on the role of the head of one of the five major houses. Those that have played Cosmic Encounter might recognize some of the play, since The Iron Throne takes many of it’s mechanics from it. Anyway, by participating in encounters, players will make and break alliances, bluff and maneuver, and do their best to spread their own influence across the land. Take control of some of the most important characters in the series (meaning, in this case, the HBO television series), using them to defeat your rivals.
