Catalyst Games Labs have released the PDF version of the Experimental Technical Readout: Marik PDF supplement.

Experimental Technical Readout: Marik

From their website:

Experimental Technical Readout: Marik samples the custom and prototype designs that have begun to turn up in testing labs and top-secret proving grounds of the crumbling Free Worlds League. Each design featured in this book incorporates some of the latest technologies developed by the realms of the Inner Sphere as the war against the Word of Blake winds toward its final conclusion. These technologies—first described in Tactical Operations—have yet to achieve widespread production, but each has been prototyped and rushed to the field for their desperate consumers. Statistics and Record Sheets are included for 13 new experimental BattleMechs, vehicles, aerospace units, and battle armor designs presented in this book, ready for play in advanced BattleTech games.

  • you know I always wanted to get into battletech, but as I get older I realize how 1970s the mech sculpts are and how I just can’t handle it…isn’t it about time they modernized their designs?

I mean seriously “hip cannons” who thought that was a good idea?

    • Zac

Don’t really see it as a good or bad idea. They have also been modernizing their designs for some time. But the game is over 25 years old and they don’t toss away their old work just for the sake of making it all new and shiny.

The background also makes reference to peopler reusing old designs with new weapon systems in them.

haha you know jaque froid I would have to agree. Every time I look at the game as a whole the models strike me as ancient and outdated.

But I guess people still dig it since its been around so long?

  • Walsh

It helps to think of them more as giant slow plodding walking tanks, than hyper spazzy japanese animation gundam mechs. Then, it makes sense why they slap weapons anywhere they can.

  • evernevermore (John)

Why do mechs need to look at all like some anime gundum?

Dont forget that the game has been around 25 years, there are ALOT of designs, and they have all sorts of looks.

And a hip cannon is simpler to build than any sort of arm mounted weapon when you look at the physics involved.

  • papasmrf667

Its not that I desire an anime resculpt, the figures seem too bulky and ugly haha but Walsh sums it up well.

    “giant slow plodding walking tanks”
