Espers: An Anime-Inspired Deck-Building Fantasy Opera RPG of Magic and Rebellion – Coming to Kickstarter Nov 1st

Espers, an upcoming tabletop role-playing game by Rookie Jet Studios, will launch on Kickstarter on November 1st. This original RPG combines deck-building mechanics with fantasy and anime-inspired themes, allowing players to take on the roles of Espers—powerful magic-wielders capable of bending reality.

Set against the backdrop of the Myrillian Empire, a regime known for its persecution of Espers, players will navigate a world shaped by the tension between control and freedom.

In Espers, 2-6 players can experience flexible character-building through a class-free magic system, choosing from eight unique Magic Arts, such as Transmutation, Illusion, and Enchantment, to define their abilities. This flexibility extends to combat, where traditional dice rolls are enhanced by a deck of cards known as Fate, which governs actions based on suits and can be tailored to players’ choices and achievements. This deck-building element adds a layer of strategy as players modify their decks over time, making each encounter unique.

The game’s setting offers a range of environments, including floating cities, ancient ruins, and sprawling dungeons, accessible by airships, magical creatures, and other immersive travel options. Players can explore the world of Myriil through these varied terrains, facing both physical and philosophical conflicts as they decide how to use their powers—whether to rebel, uncover secrets, or shape a new destiny.

The themes of magic, rebellion, and the consequences of wielding great power are core to the Espers experience, aiming to create an engaging and emotionally charged journey for players. Additionally, the game’s lore is supported by over 150 items and equipment, a complete bestiary, and customizable story elements, encouraging unique campaigns and replayability.

A free Quickstarter for Espers is now available on DriveThruRPG and Itch.io, offering players a preview of its world, mechanics, and lore ahead of the November 1st Kickstarter launch.
