About a month or so ago, I had an impromptu Arnold Schwarzenegger movie marathon on Netflix. The Terminator, Conan, and then The Running Man (and then Total Recall, but we're mostly focusing on The Running Man here). As you know, in the movie, a dystopian society puts convicts into a "win or die" game where they have to escape from psychopaths-turned-heroes. Well, now just think if you took that idea and gave it steroids. That's sort of the idea behind Splinter: Surprising Things. The RPG is up on Kickstarter now and looking for funding.
Splinter: Surprising Things is a bit Running Man, a bit The Matrix, a bit Hunger Games, a bit The Cube, and a bit that one episode from Pinky & The Brain where they go inside that virtual maze-thing. You play as an Avatar within the Splinter. The Splinter is an ever-changing, ever-evolving megastructure that is also the scene of a Big Brother-esque television show. Contestants are strapped into a chair and then given control of an Avatar (sort of from... like... Avatar) within the Splinter. Will you survive the other contestants? Will you try and break out and maybe deal with the corrupt government that is in charge of the Splinter?
The campaign is running now and is set to go for another 28 days.
