One of the first RPG systems I learned was GURPS (I actually learned it long before I learned anything D20-based). The system is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. With that, Steve Jackson is running a Kickstarter for Dungeon Fantasy, an RPG that uses the famously-flexible GURPS system. The campaign’s up and running right now.
The box set gives you basically everything you need to play (short of players and a living room/kitchen/LGS to play in). There’s cardboard figures, maps, dice, and rulebooks (5 in total). The books give you a different focus, depending on what you’re looking for. In the Adventurers book, you’ll learn all about making your characters and customizing them to exactly what you want to play. In Exploits, you learn about the rules of the game, as well as handy guide for the GM on how to run the system. Spells, as one would expect, goes into detail about various spellcasting schools open to the different classes. Monsters gives the GM plenty of different bad guys to throw at their players. Then there’s Dungeon, which is a simple starter-quest to get you all going and on the same page for how the rules work.
The Kickstarter is going now. They’re about 3/5 of the way to their goal with still 25 days to go.
