Derpy Games launches NanoBot Battle Arena Kickstarter

Derpy Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to fund NanoBot Battle Arena, their new tile-laying game.

From the campaign:

A new TILE based tabletop strategy game set in the distant future, where minuscule robots – NanoBots – are the leading innovation in technology. Experiment with eight different strains to face off against foes.

    Hmm… this is an odd relaunch.

    Usually relaunches of failed projects come out with better/bigger/more enhanced products, but this one actually goes the opposite and cheapens it by switching to cards instead of minis.

    And the big sell is that now there’s a “BIG discount” but really you’re getting far less product (not just the switch to cards but no included exclusives in the base pledge) even though the overall price is lower.

    Having played this a few times, I knew immediately that it should have been a tile-laying game to begin with. It shouldn’t have been a minis game, and the inclusion of the minis drove its price to around $60 as compared to the current $25. This is a $25 game, not a $60 game, regardless of components. I have seen a few games relaunch without minis now. Princes of the Dragon Throne is one example. I did not back this in the minis campaign, but did back it in the relaunch. This was the right move.
