I'm a fan of quick, simple, easy dice games. Stuff that you can pick up and play basically at a moment's notice with essentially zero set-up time and rules that are so easy, just a couple sentences is all you need to teach a new player. Boot Loot, by Sullivan Family Games, is one of those types of games. This one involves pirates! They're up on Kickstarter now and looking for some funding love.
Boot Loot, as-mentioned, is a really simple game. The components are the shaker cup, nine Voyage dice, and one Action die. On your turn, you put the 9 Voyage dice in the cup and shake it up. Then, without looking, grab 3 of those dice and roll them. Each of the dice are different, but they all have the same three symbols on them. One gives you a coin. One takes away a coin. One does neither. So, looking at the three dice you've rolled, you have 3 options: Roll 3 more Voyage dice from the dice cup, roll the Action die and do what it says (each of the 6 sides have different effects, from stealing coins from opponents, to doubling your current coins, to taking away all your coins for the turn), or you can end your turn and take the coins awarded.
The game ends when a pirate has 12 coins. However, it doesn't end immediately, as the other pirates will have a single round in order to try and steal away coins from the winner and thus continue the game.
The game is set to be on Kickstarter for another 30 days.
