Battle Systems posted up this preview show of a new terrain line they’re working on. More details, and a Kickstarter, coming soon.

From the preview:

Here’s the first teaser pic of the prototype to our new line!

The new line will be 100% physical and funded by Kickstarter in the next few months.

Wow, glad I didn’t end up going bug hunt corridors. This has Sedition Wars terrain written all over it.

Thanks, yes this will be modular and allow you to make any room and corridor sizes you want. Great for Sed Wars. :o)

This looks like pre-printed and cut/punched polystyrene (like the constructable card games that had a brief moment). It would be very neat if this ends up being the case. Some slightly taller buildings would be nice too though (thinking more downtown cyberpunk than random militarized bunker).

sorry.. when I said buildings taller I had just finished flipping through their image gallery on facebook. This stuff looks fine for an interior. 😀

Where are you seeing polystyrene? Appears to be printed cardboard, in the pics. Looks like sci-fi “terraclips” without the clips. Hoping the kickstarter is worthwhile. Lots of 3D sci-fi terrain coming out lately, but most of it seems to ignore the market for 1″ squares printed/sculpted on. That’s what kept me from backing the Bug Hunt stuff.

    • 4tonmantis

Yeah, I like the inclusion of the 1″ squares as well.
I just saw how thick the card was and assumed it was polystyrene… I wouldn’t have imagined card that thick since older card stuff I’ve gotten from other companies has not been the greatest but I guess only time will tell with these.

Indeed it is card. It has the squares and actually has the clips too, but they are deigned to hide themselves to an extent. If you have any suggestions at this stage, let us know, feedback is vital at this stage. If you want to be kept up to date, just like us on Facebook or do the Twitter thing. All good fun.

Suggestions for additional products would be things like futuristic “downtown” urban stuff with the 1″ squares. I would love to see a company approach a shadowrun/blade-runnerish setting with pre-printed card. There are some somewhat similar resin/plastic/whatever kits but card offers a few different possibilities and would be nice to see. For the GW/Infinity/etc gamers it would also offer something that looks like an actual city versus Cities of Death stuff that looks nothing like an actual city of any kind.
Also, I’d like to have a conversation about an upcoming thing I’m working on.. I’ll send you guys a message on Facebook or similar.

Looks like you’re already well on the right track. Modular, squares, banked walls, consoles, multi-level: all check out with me. I love the details like framing around the doors, so they don’t just look like holes in the card. Only suggestion would be maybe some cut-outs in the walls. Then you could add a bit more depth by making the wall it’s up against have some printed stuff (pipes, circuitry, etc.) visible – or even make the cut-outs correspond to each other to have windows or viewing ports between rooms. Also might want to have options for short corridor walls, taking into account that folks want to move miniatures around without knocking the whole scene over.

My Gamma World group spends a lot of time raiding installations and creeping through old research labs and things. Making scratch terrain, or adapting the stuff that’s currently available has proved time consuming, and costly. I’d rather spend my precious little nerd time painting figs than casting resin squares. This stuff looks perfect for my needs.

What little you’ve shown off already looks fantastic, though. As long as the price point isn’t too crazy, I’m sold.

Hey guys, thanks for the continued feedback. Lots of good ideas. We have looked in some of them already, like the window walls. We’ve pretty much got the set worked out now, but the kickstarter will always open doors to new components. Visit our Facebook, our blog or our website for continued updates. Cheers all, we have a big feedback book and have noted all new suggestions. :o)
