Ars Magica Open License Funded Through BackerKit Crowdfunding Campaign, Core Mechanics and Setting Now Free
Atlas Games has announced the successful funding of the Ars Magica Open License through a crowdfunding campaign on BackerKit.
The license makes the core mechanics and the Mythic Europe setting of the award-winning roleplaying game available for free under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license.
The campaign, which also launched the Ars Magica Definitive Edition, reached its funding goal within just three minutes. An early Stretch Goal unlocked the text and setting from the 5th Edition core rulebook, with the expanded Definitive Edition text also close to being unlocked. Additional Stretch Goals include content from nine tribunal and region sourcebooks, scenario books, and other supplemental materials, with the possibility of over 60 books being made available under the open license.
John Nephew, co-owner of Atlas Games, noted the importance of the support from the Ars Magica community, stating that the open license “Allows players and creators to freely share, adapt, and build upon the game.”
The crowdfunding campaign will continue until November 14, with additional content expected to be unlocked as Stretch Goals are met.
