Ares Games will be coming out with a new Napoleonic naval game called Sails of Glory.

From the announcement:

Sails of Glory® is a tactical ship-to-ship miniature game, inspired by the best-selling Wings of Glory system. It will feature assembled and painted ship models, ready to play out of the box, and a game system designed to accurately represent battles at sea between the large sailing ships of the past centuries. The first series of Sails of Glory will be set in the Napoleonic Age, an iconic period for naval wargaming.

The initial release of Sails of Glory, (scheduled for July 2013), includes a Starter Set – an all-in-one starting point to begin playing – with four fully painted and assembled ships, and 12 different Ship Packs. Backers on Kickstarter will have exclusive access to four of the ship models: the French frigate La Concorde, the French ship-of-the-line Fougueux, the British frigate HMS Juno, and the British ship-of-the-line HMS Bellerophon.

I was born at a very young age. I plan on living forever. So far, so good.

nice. i remember playing wings of war and commenting how easily it could be adapted to a naval battle game.
i just want some age of sail ship minis.

I thought they announced they were gonna do this back when they originally got the WoW license. But coolio, do want!

Probably come out sometime in 2016.

My monstrous local shop hasn’t even seen the bloody latest WW1 planes yet, so I will be damned! Damned I say! if you think that I will contribute to this.

OH, and I also have a large collection of GHQ’s fine ships and a signed copy of the impeccable Trafalgar rules.

CAMA expects that every gamer shall do his duty! And not kickstart!

Could be cool, but the problem is, unlike Wings of Glory where there are a myriad of aircraft models and colors, ships all look alike.

Uh, no. They don’t. There are probably more designs for ships in this timeframe than planes in WW1. We’re talking about ships that range in roughly 60 years of design.

I should know. I know everything about ships, because not only am I awesome at google, but I saw Master & Commander, a documentary about Master & Commander, and have all the Hornblower books. I like ships A LOT!

And yes, I am totally freaking serious.

Cama, I am sorry that your shop does not receive our WW1 airplanes. That’s definitely not Ares’ fault though. We shipped them to distributors in early January, and hundreds of people are playing with them by now.
Generally speaking, while it’s true that Ares Games does have some delays (99% of the game publishers do, for a number of similar reasons), I think that considering that the company was born in late 2011, we’ve had an impressive performance in getting things done.
We’ve released THREE waves of WW1 airplanes in less than 1 year, and we’ll have a fourth one in the 1st semester of 2013. This means, 4 waves in under 18 months. The previous publisher got out 4 waves of WW1 airplanes in 3 years (from 2007 to 2010). So we’re not perfect, and Sails of Glory may well not be your cup of tea, that’s fine. But it’s not correct to fire cheap shots at a project and a company just because you don’t like the company, or the idea.
We’ve been shy of announcing a release date for Sails of Glory because we knew perfectly well the complexity of the project- nobody ever produced miniature painted ships before, except the laser-cut Pirates from Wizkids. But if we’re launching the Kickstarter is because we know that the issues are solved, and that the game is on track to be out in a few months.

i cant wait to see the ships! 🙂

      Thanks for the commento Roberto.

You guys do great games, no doubt. I have ALL the Wings of War releases (WW1) including the mats and 1 gold and 3 silver planes – yes, I have them.

I always buy them all as a set as soon as they come out – almost like a subscription at my big (it’s really a big shop – 14000 square feet – yes, that’s thousand!) local shop.

So when I can’t get a full set when they come out, it’s a problem. I just picked up the Duel Packs and the three mats, so I can’t understand where the planes are!

Want to sell a set personally to me, Roberto?

I am looking forward to the next set – Triplane alone makes it cool. DH2 remains my favourite though. 🙂

I am certainly waiting on this one. Good luck with KS!
