Podcast Radio

Tuesday. I'm feeling more energetic than yesterday. That's a rather low bar, I understand, but still. I wonder if it's because I had a little bit of the world's hottest hot sauce that doesn't use extracts... It could be, I suppose. If I could survive that, I can survive anything (hot-sauce related, anyway). In the meantime, let's get to some podcasts that hopefully won't set fire to your mouth.

This week on the dial we have: Geeks of the North Episode 86: Skirmish games; The Rolistes Episode 36: Infrequently Asked Questions with Hanno from FAQcrew; 40K Radio Episode 45: Stay Frost(y); Tabletop Talk Episode 45: Malifaux Path to Podium: 2019 English GT; Tabletop Talk Bonus Episode: NC Grand Tournament and USFT Update; Rolling Dice & Taking Names Episode 183: Tapestry, Bloom Town, War of the Worlds, Dizzle, Gates of Delirium, Annihilageddon; The Secret Cabal Express 53: H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos; Meeples & Miniatures Episode 279: Saga: Age of Magic; The D6 Generation Pip Episode 29: Star Wars Feels; and Blue Peg, Pink Peg Episode 157: Abomination: Heir of Frankenstein.

Geeks of the North Episode 86: Skirmish games

Hello geeks,

This week, we talk about low model count games, often called skirmish games. What they are, their advantages, what we like about them, etc. We also talk about two models by Blacksmith Miniatures, the Ferret and the Little Master Mice, and about the Agents of Oz for Twisted by Demented Games.

So sit back, relax, grab a paintbrush and enjoy the show!

The Rolistes Episode 36: Infrequently Asked Questions with Hanno from FAQcrew

Please meet the latest German Critter visiting us in London, Hanno from the FAQCrew.

We took advantage of his visit (and of my lunch break) to record this interview full of insight on the tabletop RPG culture across the Rhine.

40K Radio Episode 45: Stay Frost(y)

In this episode we are joined by Amy Frost to hear about an upcoming project she is working on with JF. We talk about what we’ve seen from Psychic Awakening and speculate about what possible new races could be coming to 40K!

Tabletop Talk Episode 45: Malifaux Path to Podium: 2019 English GT

Join Craig and his guests, Jamie Varney, James Doxey and Paul Butler, as they explain how they ended up on the podium for the 2019 English GT. They discuss, round-by-round, what they brought to the table, what they faced up against and how they came out on top. We also talk about where we think each of the factions fall against each other now that we are several weeks since M3e was released.

Tabletop Talk Bonus Episode: NC Grand Tournament and USFT Update

A short bonus episode where I talk about the December Decimation GT, an update to the scoring for USFT and give our patrons a shout out! Regular episodes will continue every Tuesday.

Rolling Dice & Taking Names Episode 183: Tapestry, Bloom Town, War of the Worlds, Dizzle, Gates of Delirium, Annihilageddon

Bit of a long episode this time due to the number of games covered and ten minutes of talking about food. At least it isn’t lawnmowers this time.

Tapestry gets the Scurry treatment and luckily we had Nate and Mark keeping us in check. Not sure if there is anything new that you haven’t already heard from others, but we had to play this beautiful game. This is one of those games that I want another chance at with the same civilization just to see if I can find a pattern and a winning strategy. I can see where this might be a legacy game for some from the standpoint that they just want to get good at all the civilizations in the game.

At the time of the recording, I had not gotten to play Gates of Delirium, but I have since. Marty is right, this is a fast pace game where you need to pay attention to what is on the table and going on around you with the other players. It is a fun game where the final outcome might surprise you. It did me.

Bloom Town and Dizzle provided a pleasant surprise to us both. Before you discount Dizzle as another Roll and Write, you need to give it a try because there is some strategy that will surprise. Bloom Town is the same way with the strategy, but there is the potential for hate drafting in the game. So what seems to be a light game suddenly becomes one of hard choices and sometimes mean decisions. Bloom Town is a Walmart exclusive.

War of the Worlds is brought to you by Marty and Adam and it is always fun to hear Adam needle his father about things. This is a two player game only so keep that in mind as you hear how Marty lost both times.

Annihilageddon is a very adult content game. You have been warned not only on the box, but by us.

Thanks for listening and hope you enjoy.

The Secret Cabal Express 53: H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos

In episode 53 of the Secret Cabal Express, Steve, Jamie and Chris talk about H.P. Lovecraft and The Cthulhu Mythos! We discuss the history of Lovecraft and the creation of the Mythos and then talk all about our favorite the stories, games, movies, TV shows and comics inspired by Lovecraft's work.

Meeples & Miniatures Episode 279: Saga: Age of Magic

In this show hosts Neil Shuck and Mike Hobbs are once again joined by regular podcast listener and sometime gaming opponent Shaun Randall. For the main part of the show we review Saga: Age of Magic from Studio Tomahawk.

  • 2:16:37 – Outtro – Closing thoughts, including a chat about the War of the Worlds Experience.

We hope you enjoy the show.
