The guy behind One Page Rules has been only doing this in his spare time when still working a full-time job. But now, he's quit his regular job and has dedicated himself to One Page Rules full-time. Considering how many updates we got from them when it was part-time, I'm expecting 10 new games every couple hours from them now.
From the article:
As many of you already know, OPR is run fully and solely by one person, which is me (hi!).
For the past 7 years I’ve been working on OPR in my free time, and have never paid myself a single cent from the money we made via subscriptions or store sales. In my mind I’ve always seen that money as a vote of confidence on your part, and it felt wrong to take that money for myself when I could instead invest it into providing you all with more content.
That was all very easy to manage whilst OPR was pretty small, but over the last few years the project has skyrocketed in popularity and has grown to be one of the top 10 biggest wargaming Patreons in the world, and by now this is in no way a one-man project anymore. Whilst I still take care of the majority of things, there are lots of people I hire to do stuff that I can’t, such as all of the awesome illustrations, paper miniatures and 3D print miniatures, and by now there are 10-15 people involved in OPR’s production every month.
I tried as hard as I could to keep doing this in my free time whilst still working a full-time job, which admittedly has not been very good for my own health over the past year, and so I’ve decided to finally pull the trigger and quit my job to dedicate myself to OPR full-time. By now OPR brings in enough money that I can pay myself a regular salary without having to feel guilty about compromising on releases, so don’t worry about things slowing down.
If anything, this means that I’ll now have more time to dedicate myself to OPR without going absolutely insane, and hopefully I’ll be able to improve my work-life balance as well, which has been suffering for too long now. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to do this, and hope that I can continue to provide you all with awesome games, miniatures, and more in the future. Thank you all for your support!
Alright, enough of that now, let’s get to the meat of this news post. :)
