I don't know. With how busy I've been, the idea of being put under a spell so I sleep forever doesn't sound too terrible. But, if, while asleep, I'm in a nightmare castle trying to escape, maybe it wouldn't be so great. And that's what's happened in CHAINsomnia, a new board game that's up on Kickstarter now.
From the campaign:
To set up a game, each player chooses a character - you decide how - randomly, or choose your favorites! Each character has a Character Board, a standee and a Summary Card. Two Chain tokens go on each Character Board, at the top of the Chain Gauge; the character's Action Point marker goes on the AP Gauge.
The CHAINsomnia tile goes face-up in the center of the playing area and everyone puts their character standee on it. After creating the Castle deck, the Item deck and the Event deck, give the Start Player marker to the person who went to bed the latest last night, and you're ready to go!
Over a series of rounds, you will build and explore the Castle of Nightmares. A round has three phases:
- Player Turns - The Start Player goes first, followed by the other characters, in clockwise order. During a turn, a player may take as many actions as they have Action Points for, in any order. Those actions are: Explore, Move, Search, Use an Item, Give an Item, Give or Take Chains, or Use a Skill.
- Daemon's Turn - The Start Player draws one Event card and resolves it.
- End of the Round - The Start Player passes the marker clockwise.
To win the game, players must face all the Bad Dreams and get at least one character to the "Wake Up" tile. Congratulations - you defeated the Daemon and everyone won!
However, if the Daemon manages to Cage all of you, or if there's no Event cards left to draw, you are forever trapped in the Castle of Nightmares!
The campaign is about halfway to its goal with 15 days left to go.
