Year 2016

Happy New Year, everyone! 2016 is finally over and 2017 stretches ahead of us. What will the new year bring? Hard to say, really (man, if only I knew how to tell the future...). But I hope it means a lot of gaming for you. But what games? Well, how about checking out some reviews to know that you buy just the ones you'll like.

Looks like a lot of reviewers are taking a break for the holidays. We've just got one for you today.

CMON is known for their miniatures in their games. I mean, the M stands for "Mini." In The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch, the game will come with plenty of miniatures. But how do you know they're going to be the C (that is to say, "Cool")? Well, you get a preview of them here.
It's the penultimate day of the year. 2016 is on its way out. Lots of people are going to be partying about it. I'm sure some of that will include gaming. At least, I hope it does for you. Anyway, if you're going to be partying to midnight tomorrow, you'll want to stock up on some bite-size gaming stories.

Today on the platter we have: Kromlech Releases The Red Duchess, Ramshackle Games Previews Space Knight Jet Bike Rider, and

It's not easy robbing a train. You've gotta get the conductor to stop the thing. You've gotta make sure you get the goods. You need to make sure the other members of your gang aren't going to double-cross you. And you've gotta make sure the passengers don't put up too much of a fight. Well, that last one gets tougher when the train is holding Marshal Samuel Ford. And that's just what happens in the Marshal and Prisoners expansion for Colt Express.
Fantasy Flight has some expansions available for some of their popular board games. Whether you're a Star Wars fan or more into an Earth-centered sci-fi world in the form of XCOM, there's some new releases that will change how you play the game.
One of the most important civilizations in world history (and, quite possibly, one of the largest threats to everyday life, if comics and movies are to be believed), Egypt has left a lasting legacy. Even today, fascination with the land along the Nile continues to grow. Well, gamers that have an interest in Egypt can now add it to their games of Deus. Deus: Egypt is now available.
I think it's safe to say that these will be the last releases from Warlord Games for Beyond the Gates of Antares... for the year. Well, it is the 30th, after all. Well, they're not ending with just a figure or two, they've got quite a lot coming out, including a new starter box set.
Comic writers love to give us alternate versions of the characters we love. With the multiple universes that they create, you can get all different types of characters, letting you explore them from different angles and under different circumstances. One such alternate universe is Earth X, where we get a new version of Captain America. He's coming to HeroClix as a con exclusive, and we get a look at him here.
We're here at our last Terrain Corner for the year. Lots of companies are still on vacation, but we've got a couple posts for you here.

Let's just get right to them.

We have: Heroic Maps release winter Giant Maps, Dark London: Pwork Wargames fantasy gaming mat Now Available, and War Sands: Pwork Wargames fantasy gaming mat Now Available.

Mantic has a lot coming next year. Lots of new releases for their various games. March will see the official release of the second edition of Deadzone, their sci-fi skirmish miniatures game. Well, more than just a revamp of the old rules is coming. They've got some new stuff in store as well.
This time of year, you tend to get a lot of things as gifts. Well, the folks over at Wild West Exodus are looking to maybe get you something else for free. They're giving away ten copies of their rulebook to some lucky winners.
Early next year, Fantasy Flight Games is coming out with the first full expansion for Mansions of Madness, 2nd Edition. Beyond the Threshold brings you all new investigators to the horrific house that is Arkham. But along with just some new investigators, they'll also be coming out with new scenarios for you to go through. They've got a preview of one of them, Gates of Silverwood Manor, here.
Along with all the other deals that Warlord Games currently has going on, they've got another one for you to check out. This time, they've got a special Black Powder offer to help you recreate one of the most famous battles in history.
The Federation doesn't have friends everywhere. In particular, the Xindi feel that they need to defend against Federation encroachment. To do this, they use the Calindra Aquatic Cruiser. It's going to be in Wave 28 for Star Trek Attack Wing, and you can get a look at it in this preview.
The final week of 2016 continues on. I know a lot of people are enjoying a bit of a break here at the end of the year. Many game companies are taking a little bit of time off. But that's not to say we don't have a good bit of bite-sized stories to snack on.

So let's get to it.

Today we have: Tactical folding kit for board RPGs on Indiegogo, Victoria Miniatures Previews 2017 Releases, Nightmare Forest: Alien Invasion Coming to Kickstarter, Oddzial Osmy’s 3mm December Releases Arrive at PicoArmor, Advanced Deployment After Christmas Sale, New Battle Rulers Available from Kromlech, and Tercio Creativo Christmas Offer Going On Now.

In 2017, we here in the US will be getting a new President. It was a very long election season, and many people are glad it's over. But if you're a die-hard election junkie, you can still get your politics fix with some election board games, such as Two-Seventy, which is now available.
There's a lot of things that live out in the ocean. Whales, fish, squid, whale-fish-squid-men... It's that last group that you should really worry about the most. But if you can take control of those fierce fighters, you can not only control the waves, but potentially the land, too. But how hard would it be to take over such a group? Actually, pretty easy. Mantic is taking pre-orders now for the Trident Realms forces for Kings of War.
Most of the Warlord Games crew is out of the office. But the ones left over have gone a bit CRAZY!! They've slashed prices on a bunch of products and now's your chance to get games and minis at a special price. Better get there quick before Paul gets back and everything goes back to normal.
For the majority of us, movement is a 3D experience. You can go forward, backward, left, right, up, down, and any combination thereof. However, we're all pretty much locked into one direction when it comes to time. The Doctor, however, doesn't have such constraints. As such, movement in Doctor Who: Time of the Daleks, coming from Gale Force Nine, is a bit more than just going one way around a board.
I hope everyone's having a great holiday season. It's been a nice one over here. Christmas, itself, was kinda lackluster, but yesterday we smoked a pork shoulder and made a fruitcake. Smoked pork shoulder might not be the most traditional of Christmas meals, but I could certainly stand to make it a tradition.
Anyway, as for today, seeing as it is Tuesday (though I certainly don't think it feels like one), we've got our regular grouping of gaming podcasts for you.

Today we have: Guild Ball Tonight Episode 53: The Penance Beard, The Cardboard Herald Episode 7: Jamey Stegmaier of Stonemaier Games, Cheated Fates Radio: Special Kickstarter Episode, Singled Out Episode 2: A Newbie’s Guide To The Guild Ball Background, Gamers Lounge Episode 133: Dark Souls the Board Game, Epic Gaming Night Podcast Episode 85: Youth Gaming, Meeples & Miniatures Episode 189: Banter from the Bunker: December 2016, and Geeks of the North Episode 36: Christmas wishlist and PVC miniatures, the future?

We're only 4 days away from the end of 2016. I know a lot of people are going to be very happy about that. Lots because 2016 wasn't the greatest. But, really, it's also because there's a lot to look forward to in 2017. Certainly, the folks at Mantic have a lot planned, and they've laid out some of their announcements in a new article.
The Tengu Descension brings together everyone on the bird-to-man spectrum. You've got 100% humans. You've got birdmen. And you've also got 100% birds. Well, you will, anyway, when the next release for them comes out. GCT has also posted up their show schedule for next year, including some new ones they've not been to before.
Doctor Who... it's almost hard to put it into perspective. It's been around basically forever, has had billions of watchers over the course of that time, and is a worldwide phenomenon. Even if you're not a die-hard fan, you generally have a knowledge of it, just by how much it has permeated our "regular" culture. Well, trying to encompass all of that into a game isn't easy. In this preview of Time of the Daleks, game designer Andrew Haught from Gale Force Nine shows us how they looked to incorporate the 12th Doctor into the game.
One of the new games that really took the miniatures world by storm this year was Blood & Plunder from Firelock Games. The Kickstarter campaign for this new Caribbean-armies themed game broke through a bunch of stretch goals and was very popular at Gen Con. Well, they're letting us know a little bit of what they've got in store for 2017.
You'd think that being part of a starship crew would already mean lots of action and adventure. And you would be right. However, nothing can quite prepare you for the coming of the Fury, an event that will shake the whole galaxy more than the biggest supernova. That's just what's happening though, and your crew has been sent to go check it out. That's the story behind Heart of the Fury, a new campaign supplement for Bulldogs!
