The Zombie Squad Sci-Fi RPG Up On Kickstarter

In the far distant future, the human race has stretched out into the stars. Unfortunately, being humans, we’ve pretty much annoyed, bothered, and become enemies with just about every sentient race we’ve found out there. As such, numerous wars have been fought as humans look to gain access to various resources that they so sorely need. Sometimes, humans end up in prison for crimes committed during these wars. Well, instead of just being a drain on resources, those criminals are given an option: Firing squad or join with the Zombie Squad (so named because they’re basically the walking dead). Obviously, if your character goes with the firing squad, it’s a pretty quick game. Anyway, that’s the story behind The Zombie Squad, a new sci-fi RPG that’s up on Kickstarter.

Pathogenesis Deck-Building Game Up On Kickstarter

It’s us versus them! Who are they? The germs, of course! Every day, our bodies are bombarded with harmful pathogens. It’s only via the stalwart immune system that we manage to keep going. But we must always beware. Those germs and viruses can change and morph, evolving to work against our immune systems. And that’s just what’s happening in Pathogenesis, a new deck-building game that’s up on Kickstarter.

Sigma Event 2177 Gruntz Lite Starter Set Up On Kicktarter

We all know my love of 2-player starter sets. They’re a rather economical way to get you and a friend into a game system. Or, even if you don’t have a friend to immediately split the cost with, you still get two playable armies that you can use to start teaching others to play. Well, if you’re interested in learning to play Gruntz Lite, you might want to check out the Sigma Event 2177 2-player starter set that’s up on Kickstarter now.

Rift: Saga of a Dying World Board Game Up On Kickstarter

From the Rift, great power can be gained. It’s not like walking up and just slicing you off a piece, though. The Rift, itself, with all that power, is a rather dangerous object, and its presence is causing all sorts of havoc. What’s also causing havoc are how various entities are looking to get the power of the Rift all for themselves. These immortal warriors are ready to do battle in order to be the one who controls the Rift. Using their special moves, each will look to defeat their opponents on an ever-more-destroyed world, drawing everyone together for a final conflict at the Rift, itself. That’s the story behind Rift: Saga of a Dying World, a new board game that’s up on Kickstarter now.

Brace yourselves, everyone. The weekend is just about here. In only a couple of hours, the work week will be over and we’ll be free to have a couple days to do whatever we want. I’ve… not fully decided what I’m going to get into yet. Might just take it easy this weekend. Might have to find a new recipe to try out, though. But that’s for tomorrow. For the moment, what we have is a group of bite-sized gaming stories for you.

On the platter: Fanboy Forge Store Back Online, Cardboard Edison to Release Cobras on Kickstarter, Tabletop-Art 25mm Ancestral Ruins Bases Now Available, Raider Girl by Brother Vinni Now Available, The Army Painter Announces New Paint Sets, and Brigade Models Releases New Grav Bikes.

TGN Exclusive Preview: Arkoline Artwork For Star Saga

Mantic Games has been doing rather well with their Kickstarter campaign for Star Saga. As I type this, they’re less than $2k from reaching $200k, which will be 2x what their original goal for the campaign was. As such, they’ve made it through several stretch goals (4 to be specific, soon to be 5). They’ve shown a bit for quite a few more, but right here is the first place we get a look at another one: Arkoline.

Days of Wonder Announces The Battles of Khalkhin-Gol Expansion For Memoir ’44

When most people think about WWII, they think about D-Day and the re-taking of Europe from the Germans. Perhaps you think about the South Pacific and the US Navy Island-Hopping their way towards Japan. Maybe your mind turns to North Africa and Rommel’s armored platoons. Most of the time people don’t think about the battles between the Japanese and the Russians. But those certainly played their part in the overall conflict. And you’ll be able to recreate those using the Battles of Khalkhin-Gol expansion for Memoir ’44.

Steamforged Games Previews Next Season 2 Veterans

We’re a day away from October, but I just got a news story in my inbox that has me wishing it were nearing the end of November (you know, more than I already look forward to Thanksgiving, that is). Steamforged Games is showing off the November releases for Guild Ball, giving us a look at four more Veteran players.

New Sokar Pattern Stormbird Available From Forge World

While the US in WWII had to rely on just dropping troops out of a plane, the Empire of Man has a bit of extra technological advantage in order to land squads of marines. That comes in the form of the Sokar Pattern Stormbird. They’ll get your Marines to the battlefield in style and with some pretty heavy support going on.

New US Airborne Platoon Available From Warlord Games

Marching your troops from Point A to Point B isn’t always the best way to go. Instead, you can have your platoons jump out of an airplane and land right in the enemy’s weak points. That’s just what the US was known to do in both Sicily and Normandy during World War II. Now you can get these iconic troops for yourself and add them to your Bolt Action forces, as the new US Airborne Platoon is now available.

Lore: Fate’s Challenge Card Game Up On Kickstarter

Telling stories isn’t easy. It takes a lot of time to finely craft a plot, see through the details of supporting characters, and make sure it all works together. Then you’ve got Fate, who has to make up the stories for everybody. That’s the toughest job of all. And she could use a break for a while. As such, she’s partitioned out her work onto the Muses. So now they must create the story for everything in creation. But the Muses are a jealous group, not wanting another’s batch of stories to be better than theirs. So while working to write their own lores, they are sabotaging their opponent’s. That’s the story behind Lore: Fate’s Challenge, a new card game that’s up on Kickstarter.

Mind: The Fall of Paradise Sci-Fi Board Game Up On Kickstarter

In the far future, man has created many colonies on other worlds. Mars, Venus, Mercury all have habitable zones where humanity has started to place their own mark on the world. Though, it’s sort of a necessity, since it seems Earth isn’t doing so well. Colonies are also where humans live on our own home planet. But, with colonial life comes issues. Habitats have to be built. Resources have to be gathered. And, of course, things are always breaking. Juggling all the problems and responsibilities is tough, but I’m sure you’re up to the task. That’s the story behind Mind: The Fall of Paradise, a new sci-fi board game that’s up on Kickstarter.

Wyrd’s Rotten Harvest Painting Contest Starts Tomorrow

Tomorrow starts what is the favorite month of the year for many of my friends. I don’t think it’s that bad, either, though I think I slightly prefer November. But that’s as may be, it’s a lot of my friends’ favorite month because, of course, of the Rotten Harvest painting contest that Wyrd does! Ok, that might not be the reason, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.

Thursday Terrain Corner

Well, it’s Thursday and that means a couple things. 1) I’m in my Thursday shirt. 2) The weekend’s just over a day away. 3) We’ve gotta make sure that your gaming tables look as good as they possibly can. As the first one is already in play and the second we can’t really do much about (unless you happen to have a time machine handy), let’s take care of that third one.

In the Terrain Corner today we have: Mobilescape Adventures Tabletop RPG Terrain Up On Kickstarter, Modular Underground Project Now Offering Pre-Painted Terrain, Crossover Miniatures Running Massive Zeppelin Terrain Kickstarter, Deep-Cut Studio releases specialised game mats for Malifaux, Castle II Kickstarter from Miniature Building Authority Running Now, and Outlander: Pwork Wargames Gaming Mat Now Available.

HoliMaths X Card Game Up On Kickstarter

A lot of my gamer friends have small kids. I’m sure a lot of you out there either have or know of friends with small kids, too. Many are getting to the point where they’re learning some starting math in school. That can be a bit tricky for a lot of kids. One way to make it easier (and to just bring the family together, in general) is by turning math into a game. Well, the folks at HoliPlay Games have come up with HoliMaths X. It’s a set of cards that are more than just flash cards. They can be used to play 10 different games (oh… I bet that’s what the X is for… I originally thought it was a multiplication sign… clever). It’s up on Kickstarter now.

Shields up! Charge maser batteries! Load missile launch bays! Power up the engines! It’s space combat time. You’re at the helm of your own space cruiser when you’ve been approached by an enemy vessel. Only one of you will be jetting away from the encounter. That’s the story behind Stellar Armada, a new sci-fi abstract board game that’s up on Kickstarter now.

Epic Roll: Eclipse Up On Kickstarter

Just about as soon as a game gets released, you’ll see people asking for an expansion. They can be a great way to get a lot more content and options into a game. Well, Epic Roll isn’t just getting an expansion, they’re getting a stand-alone expansion. Epic Roll: Eclipse takes players into the dark realms, as you gain command of evil forces looking to battle the Paladin King (darned Paladins). The game is up on Kickstarter now.

Asmodee Posts New Inis Preview

My mom’s side of the family is Irish. Add to that my love of history, and you’ve got me looking over ancient Irish tales in my spare time. So a game like Inis seems right up my alley. It’s set in a mythical almost-pre-historical time on the Emerald Isle. And it’s a look within it that we get today in this preview from Asmodee.

Fantasy Flight Games Announces The Dreamlands Expansion for Eldritch Horror

Everyone has crazy dreams at times. I’ve had ones where I’ve been rollerskating around a college campus (that I know I’ve never been on), but I wasn’t wearing roller skates. I was just sort of hovering above the ground, humming to myself as I went around, with people going, “the hell?” as I passed by. It really means nothing, but that’s not the case in the world of Eldritch Horror. Dreams can be portents to the future (though I certainly hope mine was a portent of the future, as that’d RULE!). They can be doorways to alternate realities. They can be full of adventure, and of course, mind-bending and twisted terror and danger. You’ll just have to explore it for yourself in The Dreamlands, a new expansion for Eldritch Horror announced by Fantasy Flight Games.

WizKids previews Karai for HeroClix

Those of us that only know the Ninja Turtles through the cartoon from the 80s might think that the Shredder was the supreme leader of the Foot Clan (and that said clan was made up entirely of robots). Such was very much not the case for the comic series. There were many in charge of the Foot Clan, and not all of them agreed with what the Shredder was up to. One of them is Karai, who we get a preview of today.

True Messiah Deck-Building Board Game Up On Kickstarter

You’ve probably heard of psychosomatic responses. That’s where you believe something hard enough that it starts to actually take a form. A version of this is the placebo effect. Someone tells you that the pill you’re taken will increase your energy and make you happier, and you believe it, and so that’s what happens, even if the pills are just breath mints or something. Well, what if science could make a machine that actually makes strong, deeply-held beliefs become real? Well, all hell could break loose… literally. And that’s just what happened in the world of True Messiah, a new deck-building board game that’s up on Kickstarter. Yes, deck-building board game.

Presidential Knife Fight Card Game Up On Kickstarter

Considering the current political climate, some people think that maybe just putting politicians into a pit, throwing in a couple boxes of knives, and making them all just figure it out with their fists would be a better way to run the country than what we’ve got now. Well, Presidential Knife Fight doesn’t exactly do that, but it does give you a chance to have all previous US Presidents duel it out for supremacy. The game’s up on Kickstarter now.

Paizo Announces Pocket Editions of Pathfinder Core Rulebook and Bestiary

One of the downsides of playing an RPG can be how many books you feel you need to carry around for it. I know I’ve been part of groups where I carry around a giant tub of books. A lot of people get around this by having electronic versions of those books. But some of us still love the feel of an actual book in our hands, as well as find printed type easier to read than on a screen. Well, the folks at Paizo are doing their bit to help out by coming out with “pocket editions” of the Pathfinder Core Rulebook and Bestiary.

Midweek Snippets

We’re halfway there, kids. The weekend is just 2.5 short days away (well, hopefully they’re relatively short). Hopefully you’re starting to get together plans for those great days off. And more-hopefully, those plans include gaming. I’ve not fully figured out what I’ll be up to. The last two weekends have been rather full, so I might take it easy this weekend. We’ll see.

But either way, we need to stock up on some bite-size gaming stories.

Today on the platter we have: Printable Armies Up On Kickstarter, New 15mm Late Republican Romans From Baueda, Dark Art Studios Launches Devil’s Dungeon Nightmare Creatures Kickstarter, Watchful I Studio Announces 28mm Terracotta Army, Corvus Corax Miniatures Live on Kickstarter, and Flatminis releases a second wave of 2D miniatures.

MASHED: A Korean War M.A.S.H. RPG Up On Kickstarter

The Korean War is sometimes known as The Forgotten War, as there’s a lot of focus put on WWII and Vietnam, but not so much on the war that is only over due to a cease-fire and not any more formal declaration of cessation of hostilities Though it wasn’t the longest war, by far (in fact, the TV show, M.A.S.H. was on air longer than the main confrontation), it did leave a bit of a mark on society. Well, now you can put yourself into those tough times in MASHED, a Korean War RPG that’s up on Kickstarter now.

October Releases For Halo: Ground Command Posted

Tanks have been a part of warfare for over 100 years now. And even before that, there were things like war elephants that were basically the tanks of their time. Well, in the far future of the Halo universe, tanks still play a major role in combat. Next month, two tanks will be making their way to the tabletops for Halo: Ground Command.
