WizKids is happy to announce that they’ve re-signed their licensing deal with CBS for Star Trek. Considering how big a property Star Trek is, that’s newsworthy in and of itself. But they’ve also posted up a list of new products they’re going to be coming out with that license. They include more Attack Wing sets, a new Star Trek Tactics set, HeroClix figures, and even unpainted ships.

From the announcement:

WizKids, the industry leader in quality pre-painted and unpainted plastic miniatures and publisher of premium tabletop games and accessories, is pleased to announce a renewed multi-year license with CBS Consumer Products to continue bringing their popular Star Trek brand to players and fans around the globe. Plans include expanding their highly successful Star Trek: Attack Wing line, while also offering new and returning Star Trek focused product lines.

At this point, can we really say that Star Trek Attack Wing is “highly successful?” I realize the quote is predictable PR-release garbage, but honestly it’s been forever since I’ve heard anything positive surrounding this game. Endless expansion waves, poorly pre-painted ships, errata’d rulesets, expensive con exclusives, dicey tournament scene. Maybe at one point it was popular, but even WK said profits weren’t what they used to be for Attack Wing.
