Yugioh was huge when I was middle school, and among younger as well as older kids.

Not sure of it’s popularity now, I am sure it still has a fan base but probably a shadow of it’s former self, correct?

How come wizkids didn’t make this at the height of it’s popularity?

They probably couldn’t afford the license at the height of its popularity.

someone came in and bought the old WizKids after they went belly-up from licensing EVERYTHING under the sun and making about 100 new games a year (hyperbole, of course). Now the new WizKids is licensing EVERYTHING under the sun and is shoe-horinging them into a single game system. So new WizKids is basically the old WizKids with one game. yay.

I think it’s the opposite — NECA already had a license for Yugioh (among other popular franchises) and has been extending those prexisting relationships with the WK/Heroclix product lines they acquired.
