Vanguard of War Board Game Up On Kickstarter

Well, it would seem as though we’re surrounded. There’s a seemingly endless army of demons outside the tower and all of them want to come in. We don’t want them to come in because demons never wipe their feet and we just got new carpeting. So it’s up to the four of us to defend this tower. That’s (somewhat) the story behind Vanguard of War, a new tower defense board game that’s up on Kickstarter now.

From the campaign:

Vanguard of War (VoW) is an upcoming 1-4 player board game from Archon Studio with highly-detailed miniatures and brutal tower defense gameplay. Players will field four heroes tasked with defending a single objective from a relentless army of demons. Each hero brings unique skills and abilities to the battlefield, and players will need to master them to all if they hope to achieve victory.

The theme of VoW is survival. The world, barely enduring the first invasion of demons is now on the precipice of another. The valiant men and women of the Fateeran Militia have stolen the demon’s doomsday weapon but have no chance of escaping with their prize. Securing the artifact in a decrepit church, the heroes must delay an army of monsters while their allies learn how to use the demons’ own weapon against them.

The Kickstarter campaign is doing fairly well. By that, I mean that they’re more than 3x funded with still 21 days left to go.

Has anyone heard anything about how this plays?

      Nope. Cool minis though.

As a general guideline, I don’t trust money back guarantees from any KS creators. I’ve seen enough complaints about lack of creator response, that backers will usually have to complain to their credit card, bank, or whathaveyou to get their money back. In fact, on Dakka, a Prodos customer had to threaten Prodos with using PayPal to get their money back unless they would ship product, an AvP Drop Pod.

Check out the LOAD, AvP, and Warzone reviews on BGG and other forums. I wouldn’t expect gameplay from Prodos, nor a developed set of rules.

Cool, Thnx. I’m a little leary – I like the minis, but not enough to justify them if the game is crap.

It’s from the people who made the L.O.A.D. boardgame (a developer with a pretty tainted history). They developed some molding technology that produces some pretty nice minis, but it pretty much stops there. They lifted entire sections of their rule book from the Rum and Bones game, and many of their characters were blatant rip-offs from League of Legends, both in visual design as well as abilities.

Basically, they can produce nice models, but that is where their talents end. (and they have yet to completely fulfill the Aliens vs. Predators Kickstarter from several years back, and have shown no real signs of intending to follow through with it).
