Troll Forged Miniatures is showing off a bunch of new bases that were created for their Kickstarter campaign. They’ll be available to everyone as soon as fulfillment is completed.

From the preview:

Production Trollcast Bases from our Kickstarter (Assimilation Alien Host).

The Bases will be available in our store once the Kickstarter is fulfilled. However they will not be as cheap as it is in our Kickstarter, so if you would like to ‘buy in’ , we have some backers who are selling their pledge via our Pledge Market.

Looks like every single company that sells bases makes exactly the same ones as everybody else. Is there really such a demand that they can all survive by selling the same exact products?

    • I’ve contemplated the very same thing and i think it comes down to if you don’t offer bases as well when people buy other stuff – they will buy them elsewhere. If you are only offering bases (and it’s not shoddy stuff) it comes down to pricing and location. I won’t be ordering outside EU given the taxes that incurs for instance. So there is room for making similare stuff.

It would have to be something exceptional for me to buy any and I have yet to see any scenic bases that are “mass” produced that can be called that. It sort of defies the point I think:

If you really want a wow display piece to tell a story you probably have to make it yourself or even if there is a really neat product, it won’t be as original as one you make. The scenic bases as I see it are more for gaming purposes and such need to be somewhat generic and “flat” and as such a really beautiful scenic piece kind of falls between the chairs in terms of who will buy it.

I wish some company would make interesting modern urban bases. It doesn’t seem like a weird request, but I haven’t found such yet (just scifi or Victorian ones, it seems).

Take a look at Fenris Games’ Mean Streets Range:!/~/category/id=6759467&offset=0&sort=nameAsc

There’s also another one but can’t remember off the top of my head. Limited range and it’s not exactly FourtyKays friendly, but it’s what your after, no doubt about that. I’ve used ’em on Pulp City and the Bones Sophie, they come up the goods 🙂

I use this. and this on a five cent metal washer if that is any help.

Shut it! Making bases is hard! You can’t do it!

Okay, seriously now, for pavement or concrete, you could straight paint some plastic bases with tooth, or if not, glue fine sand paper to them. I personally don’t see the need for complexity, such as curbs AND streets, or sidewalks with lines on them, but they are quick putty and/or plasti’card’ jobs (more like plastic’rod’ for a curb)

Glad to see someone else thought of gluing on sandpaper.
