Tak

As I mentioned back in the FFG post earlier, you all know that I love abstract strategy games. Well, Cheapass Games is running a Kickstarter campaign for Tak, a strategy game first described in Patrick Rothfuss’ book The Wise Man’s Fear. If you’re a fan of games like Chess or Go, you might want to check it out.

In the game, players have a set of stones as well as a capstone. The board is a grid anywhere from 3×3 to 8×8 (with most games being played on a 5×5 or 6×6 size board). The object of the game is to get a road built from one side of the board to the other. That is, you have a string if your pieces going across the board. On your turn you can either play a piece in an empty space or move a stack of pieces, laying them out one-by-one, as you go. Pieces can either be played flat to be part of a road, or on their side to be part of a wall. Walls can be flattened by the capstone.

The campaign’s doing rather well. It’s a bit more than 5x funded with still 29 days left to go.
