War of the Ring

It's the last day before the weekend. And I know a lot of you out there will be having themselves a long weekend, too. Many of you will be spending the time hanging out with friends and loved ones, more-than-likely having many tasty things to eat. Well, before we get there, let's fill you up on some bite-sized gaming stories.

Today we have: Blood Red Skies Previews New Render, War of the Ring Now Available in Russian, and New Dark Elf Punisher Mini Available From Brother Vinni.

Hello, Saturday!
It... was quite a week, I have to say. Very busy. With all the goings-on for GAMA, I almost forgot that PAX East was going on. Hope everyone is having a good time out there. I'm, obviously, not there. I will be at Adepticon in a couple weeks, though. That'll be fun. Love going back to Chicago (my homeland). But that's a bit away. In the meantime, let's get you the reviews you so desperately desire.

Today we have: Inis, Dungeons of Infinity, War of the Ring: Anniversary Edition, Warhammer Quest: Shadows Over Hammerhal, Fidelitas, JrassAttack, Wok on Fire, Avalance at Yeti Mountain, Citadels, Council of Blackthorn, Escape from Colditz, Stratos, Adrenaline, Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition, Flag Dash, Snowblind: Race for the Pole, The Money Pit of Oak Island, and Dice Stars.

Earlier this year, Ares Games did their release for the War of the Ring 2nd Edition Anniversary Release. It came with a lot of really cool stuff, including over 200 pre-painted figures. It also had a pretty hefty price tag. So, what if you wanted the special rulebook, strategy guide, and oversized game board? Well, you can order them now for a limited time.
Ares Games will be in Indy in a week for Gen Con. Hopefully, you will be, too (I will be). If you're a fan of their games, you'll want to stop by their booth. Heck, even if you're not a fan of their current games (no game is going to please every gamer), you'll want to stop by, since they have several new games they'll be releasing at the show.
There are hundreds of different factions that inhabit Middle Earth. Each one has a long and proud tradition, and each one is certainly capable of going to battle when their way of life is being threatened. Ares Games is bringing more of those factions to your tabletop in Warriors of Middle-earth, their next expansion for the War of the Ring (second edition) board game. Ares has posted up a preview of the first of these factions that will be included in the game, as well as some of the Event cards.
So, while we've got Gen Con a a month and change away, we shouldn't forget that Origins is this weekend. There's certainly going to be plenty to do and see at that show. Ares Games certainly has a lot planned. And they've posted up a little guide to tell us what to expect.
As announced on Thursday, Ares Games has begun taking pre-orders for their Anniversary Release of War of the Ring 2nd edition over on their website. They are only going to be making a couple thousand of these, and orders are only being taken for 2 days (they've even got a little counter on their website showing how much time is left). If you want in on this once-in-a-lifetime, very-limited-edition set, you'll have to decide quick and put in your order right away.
Sixty years ago, The Return of the King was published. This concluded The Lord of the Rings trilogy and basically created the "fantasy genre" as we know it today. Then, five years ago, Ares Games released their War of the Ring Second Edition board game, that brought all the adventure and excitement of J.R.R. Tolkien's world to your tabletop. Well, Ares Games has announced a new very limited edition of their Anniversary Release of The War of the Ring Second Edition.
If there's one thing that happens in Lord of the Rings, it's some pretty epic battles using a large variety of races. Well, Ares Games is looking to give you more options for your War of the Ring board game with the release later this year of Warriors of Middle-earth. Now, factions that were only part of the game as Event cards will get their own sets of unique figures and abilities.
New boardgame publisher Ares Games has licensed the War of the Ring boardgame and will be republishing it. From their announcement:
Good news for the fans of the award-wining board game "War of the RingTM", based on the J.R.R.Tolkien’s trilogy, "The Lord of the RingsTM". Ares Games, an Italian games publisher recently established, announces the acquisition of the rights from Sophisticated Games to publish the game, based on the literary rights granted by Middle-earth Enterprises. "We are proud to be able to bring back to the international gaming market a prestigious game like "The War of the Ring". The game has been out of the market for a long time and there is a big anticipation for this second edition, which we forecast to release within the end of this year", said Christoph Cianci, CEO of Ares Games. The new edition of "War of the Ring" will debut in English language, in autumn 2011. Several editions in other languages are planned to be released in spring 2012.
