CoolMiniOrNot has launched their Kickstarter campaign for Arcadia Quest, their new fantasy adventure board game.
Edit to add: and funded in a half-hour. So it’s stretch goals for the next 18 days.

From the campaign:

In Arcadia Quest, players lead guilds of intrepid heroes on an epic campaign to dethrone the vampire lord and reclaim the mighty Arcadia for their own. But only one guild may lead in the end, so players must battle against each other as well as against the monstrous occupying forces. Through the branching scenarios of the campaign, the heroes gain awesome new weapons and abilities, and the game remembers the heroic deeds of players from one session to the next, unlocking exciting new possibilities in future scenarios!

    Looks like there is only one pledge, I’m on board! Right after they post the gameplay video.

    Given the responses on another forum I use sofar, thought I’d ask a summary question or two.

    Why is this a new game as opposed to, for example, an SDE expansion?
    What’s the post-KS support? I like the style, but won’t be backing due to the above question, as well as the below.
    $40 postage to Australia: what’s up with that?
    Why a KS? Why not a standard release in a few months time?

    That’s it from me for now, hope to hear some responses soon.

      Not associated with the company but I can answer a few of these.

      Why is this a new game as opposed to, for example, an SDE expansion?<<<

      SDE is made by Soda Pop Miniatures, this is made exclusively by CMON. Hence why it cannot be an SDE expansion.

      $40 postage to Australia: what’s up with that?<<<

      Australia is far and it’s expensive to ship there.

      Why a KS? Why not a standard release in a few months time?<<<

      Why should they fund the cash and go to retail when they can gets tons of $$ in preorder money and risk nothing as a result. Kickstarter isn’t a place to look at products and see if they should be made, it’s just a preorder service for ready to make products now.

        It’s actually created by spaghetti western games, and published by CMoN.

        I guess the more pertinent question leading on from borzag’s is: ‘why should I support a KS that is just a pre-order, when I have none of the standard protection of distance selling regulations and no guarantee the game will play any good or of the quality of production components. Rather than just wait for it to hit the shops and support my FLGS when its released in 6-8mths time IF the game and production quality looks any good?’

        and the answer is;
        ‘no reason at all my friend’.

          “and the answer is;
          ‘no reason at all my friend’.”

          But….but what about all the ‘free’ stretch goals that are exclusive??
          Isn’t that reason enough?? 😛

        • Haibane

          Only reason that springs to mind is if you consider the deal that you’re getting is worth the additional uncertainty.

        • Borzag

          ^^^ THIS GUY.

          Yeah, I like the style of minis, but then again that’s why I have SDE. Given the track record of KS’s, I’ll wait until it hits the shelves.

          …. It will hit the shelves right CMoN?

    Kickstarter isn’t JUST a place to look at products and see if they should be made, it’s ALSO a preorder service for ready to make products now.
