Sol, a new RPG up on Kickstarter

Sol is a new tabletop RPG that’s looking for funding over on Kickstarter. Like many, this game wants to bring “role playing” back to “role playing game” and has a system of rules designed to let you create what you want, rather than cage you in with just what you’re allowed to do.

From the campaign:

Sol has a single rulebook that covers both game mechanics and discusses the world of Sol. Players are encouraged to use their imaginations; if you can think of a plausible reaction to a scenario you can try it. Want to transmute a moose into a million stinging wasps? The game mechanics will allow for that scenario. What Sol brings to the table is a new world and a game system that dispenses with complex die rolling. The game is played with a few standard six-sided die and character sheet delivering on its slogan, less rolling, more role-playing.

I’m a supporter and editor of this project. SOL is currently at 30% of our target. Detailed world and rule system all in a 160 page package. This game returns role playing back into table top RPGs. Entire game is played with 3 x d6 and one chart that eliminates constant rule referencing without sacrificing complexity. A worthy and innovative gaming Kickstarter.

Hi folks, my name is Kirk and I am lead play tester for the Sol system and game world.

The design team has just completed a three day booking at CanCon 2015 in Canberra, Australia. Given the level of skepticism occasionally shown toward new projects from new developers, it was great to have an opportunity to speak with people face-to-face about the game system and design philosophy behind it. The conversation was frank and fearless, just as it should be given the glut of game options on the market.

We are thrilled by the confidence and commitment shown by convention participants in the Sol project, and are pleased to report that we are now just short of 40% funded, with 63% of our campaign time remaining. It was particularly heartening to see backers eagerly snapping up the highest value pledges.

If you are interested in the project please head on over to the kickstarter and check it out, and we’re happy to answer any questions you might have.
