Catalyst Game Labs is announcing some great new things with Shadowrun, with their Kickstarter.

From the announcement:

Chrome eyes. Computers called “decks.” Big cyberlimbs and bigger guns. It’s Shadowrun in the year it all started. Take a step back to Shadowrun’s roots with Shadowrun 2050, a book that combines Twentieth Anniversary Edition rules—the smoothest, most accessible rule set Shadowrun has ever had—with the setting that first made the Sixth World a legend.

Shadowrun 2050 has everything players and gamemasters need to dive into the grimy beauty that kicked off one of the greatest roleplaying settings of all times. With information on how to adapt Twentieth Anniversary Edition Matrix, gear, and magic rules for the 2050 setting, as well as in-universe information about the powers of the world, what shadowrunners will be up to, and who they’ll be running into, Shadowrun 2050 puts a new twist on the classic setting.

Aaawwwwwwww yeaaaaahhhhhhhh. Love me some SR.

Saw it yesterday on the World Works Games forums. I wonder why I haven’t heard of this project before? Seems like a big deal to many (me including).

Nevermind that, I thought this was about the Kickstarter fund for the Shadowrun RPG for PC and Tablets that is headed by Jordan Weisman.

  • I wonder if there is a version that utilizes miniatures. Shadowrun is the shiz. I preferred the original rules but we’ll see which direction these go. If it’s good I might have to get some of the old sourcebooks off of RPG Drive Through

I would love to see a proper Cyberpunk miniatures game backed by a big franchise, so far there’s only Two Hour Wargame’s 5150: New Beginnings that features at least a few RPG aspects.

Try to find a copy of DMZ: Downtown Militarized Zone.

That was the first edition of Shadowrun’s mini’s games.

Rezolution is a fantastic cyberpunk miniatures game.

    Shadowrun never left!

2050 will definitely kick the nostalgia cans to be sure.

LoL @ the $10000 reward. Check out the kickstarter project 🙂

    • Veritas

The best part about that reward is that two of the three slots have already been claimed!

?? I just played shadowrun last week – I still have my 1st edition books so my group still plays.

So is this for a pen and paper game or a video game – or both?

    • It looks as though the license has been revitalized by the games’ original creator (freakin finally) and it is being redone as both a pen and paper AND a single-player turn-based strategy game for computers.

“Shadowrun Returns” is the game being worked on by Weisman and Hare Brained Schemes. “Shadowrun 2050” is a rules supplement like Arsenal, Augmentation, Unwired, etc that lets one use the 20th Anniversary Edition rules edition of 4th Edition(commonly called SR4A) to play games set in the 2050 time frame. It is
NOT “Catalyst is bringing Shadowrun back!” Shadowrun has been here for a while. Now, last year was a relatively slow year for Shadowrun supplements due to a number of issues, but Shadowrun did not go away.

Ok, I was wondering. My gaming group just finished off a short Shadowrun campaign using the 20th anniversary rules, and no one had any difficulties locating the sourcebooks.

So, this is just a sourcebook for playing in 2050 (which is a good idea) but not a replacement core rulebook, right?

I am going by what is said about it on, which indicates that it is. I have started a thread on their forums to see for sure, but the big thing is I had to step in and correct the misleading journalism that Shadowrun had gone anywhere.

  • Tommygun

What’s the time line on funding something like this?
If you make a pledge, is there going to be a 1 to 2 year wait while the game is programed?

  • AJCarrington

I believe the targeted release date for Shadowrun Returns is January 2013.

  • Tommygun

That’s seems pretty fast for a game.
I assume they must be using a pre-written game engine then and may have started programing even before the kick starter offer.

    • It’s a single player 2d game.. so yeah.. honestly, it seems like something you could play on a smartphone..
