Privateer Press had quite a presentation at TempleCon. Look below for all our news coverage. They’ve also posted their videos online for those that didn’t get to see them the first time around (or just want to watch again).

At the Privateer Press 2013 Keynote presentation we spotlighted some of our upcoming games and events, including a first look at LEVEL 7 [Omega Protocol], a teaser for the new Iron Gauntlet tournament series, and previews for WARMACHINE: High Command and HORDES: High Command, and the new WARMACHINE faction Convergence of Cyriss!

I was born at a very young age. I plan on living forever. So far, so good.

Don’t want to take sides here, but this is about 1000x better than the GW teasers.

That’s not really a fair comparison. PP put together this video to be an informative presentation of something completely new to Warmachine. This is designed to be a quick introduction to a faction that we likely won’t be seeing too much more from in the near future.

GW’s videos, on the other hand, are either vague teases for things that people have likely been expecting for months or simple 360’s of painted figures. Quick. Cheap(ish). Simple. Not nasty, but certainly not something you’re going to want to watch over and over.

I agree that its not a fair comparison – but who’s fault is that?

Both are videos aimed at getting potential customers to eventually depart from their hard earned $$$. GW’s tactic is to provide a very lame tease (and I say very lame because usually there are better rumours/images floating around on unofficial sites). PP on the other hand gives tonnes of images, spills rules and you get commentary from the design team – all upfront without having to look at some blurry pictures taken at a con.

Well, another difference is that PP comes up with that sort of video every few years at best.

Also the GW teases are essentially useless, but the models are available within weeks of these lame teasers (with much better pictures and 360s than PP), while the new PP army won’t be available until 4 months from now. And by then, PP will have spoiled all their stats in NQ magazine, while by the time GW models are released you still have some elements of surprise (which I prefer, but this really only is a matter of preference).

Finally, you do get commentaries from the design team in the GW online blog as well.

It’s also worth noting that this video was part of a greater presentation. Pre-recording this part simply allows them to go into more detail while not having to worry about doing it live.

Also, the videos for GW’s The Hobbit releases have been much better than their usual teasing fare.

Okay well you guys have defended GW pretty well. I was not aware of the Hobbit video, I will check it out.

But just as an aside, I would rather have a well done video like PP’s (even if it is once a year or for models not out for months) than those little GW teases. I have no interest in picking up White Dwarf, but if they did a decent video a few times a year I’d watch it for sure.

That’s fair enough. I too think the PP videos are a better production and more interesting to watch than the GW teases. But I think they definitely don’t don’t serve the same purpose 🙂
