I can already tell this week is going to be a long one. Not that Monday was bad, by any real stretch, but it just seemingly took forever. Even as I’m typing this now, it feels like I should be a lot closer to the end of the day than I am. But I’m sure we’ll all make it through. Something that’ll certainly help is listening to some gaming podcasts. So let’s get to it.
Today we have: Plaid Hat Games Podcast Episode 220: Language, Rolling Dice & Taking Names Episode 104: Mansions of Madness, Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu, Qwixx, Karibou Camp and Rant, The Kick Off Episode 20: Back to Batreps, Epic Gaming Night Episode 75: Brew the best with Brian Beyke, Singled Out Episode 16: Talking Engineers with Pash, Ice Cream For Everyone: Celebrating The Rolistes Gaming Podcast’s One Year Anniversary with Kalum, The Polyhedron Collider Cast Interview: Richard Denning talks Nine Worlds and UK Games Expo, Nerdherders – Episode 8 (98): Class Is In Session, News of the North – 2016-10-18, and Primecast Episode 37.
Alex and Dave are joined by the Main Action Podcast Hosts Callin and Christian.
To get in the mood for Halloween, we played two Cthulhu based games this month. First up was Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu by Asmodee games. This is a re-theme of the original Pandemic that has really been streamlined. We had heard that they had done this, but until we sat down and played it, didn’t realize just how much was removed. The trading is simpler, the use of cards to create effects when “outbreaks” occurs is a nice added feature, and the ease of travel helps getting around the map quicker. However, these changes don’t make this an easier game. The complexity is still here, but maybe without the analysis issues that sometime plague the original Pandemic.
Tonight Steve and I sat down in the Armada studio and chatted about up coming events, our Big League and that match that we played that evening.
This week we talk to Brian Beyke about board games, customer service and Coffee!
Andrew and Pash talk about his upcoming tournament in Scotland, and who he takes in his tournament 8 lineup for the Engineers.
For this new episode of Ice Cream for Everyone, Kalum of The Rolistes, an excellent London based tabletop gaming podcast had asked me to interview him for the one year anniversary of his podcast. We had a fantastic conversation about Jeremy aka Kalum got into roleplaying games, his gaming influences, how he started podcasting, his job and many more interesting stories. Enjoy!
Steve is joined by Richard Denning, designer at Medusa Games and one of the people instrumental to the UK Games Expo. Richard chats about his newest game, Nine Worlds, an abstract area control game themed around the nine worlds of Norse mythology. He also talks to us about the UK Games Expo, its history and what it’s like to be responsible for such a large gaming event.
The Nerdherders have been playing a lot of Dungeons and Dragons lately. In this episode the boys take you through all of the ins and outs of character classes in fifth edition D&D. The boys also interview Jake of AlphaOmegaHobby.com about his new KickStarter project, a gaming headquarters/hobbyists paradise in Boston, MA.
