Well, hopefully you had a good 4th of July (whether you celebrated anything or not. I still hope you had a good Monday). For those getting back to the office today, you might need a little something to help you get through it. I suggest gaming podcasts, as it’s a bit of the weekend’s gaming (or so I feel, anyway) during the mid-week slog.

Welcome to the July 5th, 2016 edition of News of the North. Here’s our weekly selection of interesting news items in the miniature wargaming world.
In Episode 8, Greg and Andy tackle the subject of naval boardgames. These are games that either focus on naval combat exclusively, or have naval combat as one of their key components. Later, they take a look at space carriers, examining the origins of the idea and how the concept of carrier operations is integrated into some of our favorite space naval games!
Brian, Dave, Colby and Alex reach into the party game box and see what they can come up with.
After we learn about the background of Force Grey from Adam Lee and Matt Sernett in a new segment called Lore You Should Know, Greg Tito delves deep into the design and development of the new board game, Tyrants of the Underdark, published by Gale Force 9 and designed by Peter Lee, Rodney Thompson, and Andrew Veen.
Joe finally gives an in-depth review of Age of Sigmar. Also, they do a Live mailbag, talk Brexit, and review Rex.
So this time we look at the implications of 3D printing, and the blurring boundaries between digital and relaity in our gaming, and its impact on the hobby aspect of our game. We also take a look at Arena Rex, Stormcloud Attack and the wave 9 releases for X-Wing in Hit or Miss
During this weeks episode:
1) The Pegs discuss a bevy of games and their experience from Origins 2016; and;
2) All the Pegs review the card drafting games from Formal Ferret Games, The Networks.
We often make predictions on the show. They are almost always wrong. Why don’t we all point and laugh at these examples…
Andrew and Oli talk about the Masons, and the 8 models he would take with him to a tournament.
Episode 127 is releasing a little late but is chock full of good content! We open the show with a lounge talk featuring Spencer, Bill, and long time friend of the show and one time listener Atlanta Mike. We cover a load of games including a litany of board games Atlanta Mike has been introducing his new crew to. We also get some advice on the “flow of games” to use when building up a non-board-gaming group toward Kingdom Death Monster.
This week we take questions from Listeners! And talk about our play of Zombicide Black Plague!
The boys try and catch up with things after the UK Games Expo, unfortunately the number of games to talk about gets the boys in a twist and chaos ensues.
Jon gets his rhyming together in Obama Llama, Steve gets his escape pods and airlocks confused in Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space, Andy invades Rome in Hannibal and we all get political with Statecraft.
For episode 11, let’s meet Fouc from “Supaéro”. This respected French aerospace engineering school has not only spawned Serge Dassault and a couple astronauts but also a successful roleplaying conventions and many RPG writers.
We also discussed London’s famous live action events, Secret Cinema, which brought its audience in the middle of Dr Strangelove missile crisis and Back To The Future’s Hill Valley.
Meanwhile myself, Persephelia, Toto Chan & Haqadosch head to the Peckhamplex to check out Warcraft The Beginning.
