Well, it’s Thursday. This week has gone by super-fast, mostly because of how busy it’s been. But that’s what happens the week before a show. Also, we’ve had a lot of people in the office to help prep. So that makes time go by, too. At the CMON Expo, there’ll be plenty of games going on, all of them on some good-looking tables. If you’re looking to make your tables look good, you should check out these stories.

Today in the Terrain Corner we have: Deep-Cut Studio releases sandy game mats for dedicated games, New 28mm British Houses Available From Sally 4th, New Terrain And Graffiti Transfers From Micro Art Studio, Torture Chamber unlocked as TerrainCrate total hits $400k, Two New Mats Available In Neoprene From Pwork Wargame, and BattleMats Releases Death Road Map.

In many deck-building games, players have limited interaction with one-another. You might grab a card another player wanted, but not much more than that. Others have you work cooperatively on some sort of task, having you win and lose together as a group. Village of Legends, a new card game that’s up on Kickstarter, has players looking at building their deck in order to defeat one-another in combat.

You might look around you these days and go, “Man, Earth’s not really all that great.” But to the aliens out in space, they see a whole new world of resources that they’d more-than-love to take off our hands. But even if we don’t love it right now, we’re not gonna let some slimy alien just walk off with our world! That’s what’s going on in Wanted Earth, a new sci-fi board game from Shadow Squirrel Games. Will you choose to defend the Earth from invasion, or look to conquer it and make it your own?

The Wonder Woman set for HeroClix will be coming out soon. In it, they’ll have more than just Wonder Woman. Though, with all the different versions characters go through in comics, I could see them coming out with a set of “just one character.” Anyway, one (well, two of the figures, since he’s got a couple versions) of the figures in the set is going to be The Flash. This is the Wally West version, for anyone curious.

I do my best to make sure that the stories I post are backed up by sources. That’s why you rarely ever see me post rumors. It’s just not what I’m about. I don’t want anyone saying I’m fake news. But when playing Fake News!, you will probably be saying that a lot.

The Gen Con release of Fantasy Flight Games’ reboot of Legend of the Five Rings is getting closer. This is an opportunity for players who might have never looked at the game to give it a shot and jump on with a footing equal to those that’ve been playing for a while. One thing unique about the game is that battles aren’t just about who has the nicer sword. There’s a lot of intricate things that can have an effect on them. In this preview, we get a look at how a conflict plays out in a very detailed example.

Back when the poker craze really started to take off, a group of my gaming buddies and I would get together for poker nights. We just would just have a nickel ante, so losing $10 over the course of a night meant you really lost your shirt (we were poor gamers, after all). We’d play all different types of poker to keep things fresh. So, if, at the time, we’d had Battle Poker around, I’m sure it would’ve been part of the cycle as well. It takes regular poker and adds battle card mechanics. It’s up on Kickstarter now.

It is getting hot outside. Oh, how I long for winter. Though I’m not sure I’d like a Siberian winter (despite being a polar bear as I am). You’ve got dangerous animals, terrible weather, and lots of other things that can go wrong. Trying to survive those long winters will test a person to their very limits. And that’s just what you’ll be doing in Outpost: Siberia, an upcoming card game from IDW Games.

There’s all sorts of great gaming events that happen all around the year all year. Pretty much if you pick a weekend, you’ll be able to find a show. Or, if you’re in one place long enough, one will come to you. A lot of people were excited to see the unpainted line of figures coming from WizKids. Well, they’ve heard you and are thus going to be expanding the line. And, once more, they’ve heard you. They took all the suggestions you sent in after the initial release, distilled them down, and are going to be coming out with them. They’ve also planned a set of terrain features that will be in the packs to help add some 3D to your gaming maps.

While gaming might usually be considered pretty fun and funny stuff, there’s games out there that are a bit more “serious business.” And I’m not just talking about people who take games too seriously. Games can be used to help teach people all manner of things. The Serious Play Awards look to recognize such games. Submissions for the award are being taken now.

It’s amazing how different a figure can cost when made out of different materials. I know that’s pretty common knowledge, but it still often blows my mind. Case in point: Impact! Miniatures and Royal Art Games have a Kickstarter running now in order to make a couple of Rolljordan fantasy football teams out of resin, as opposed to the metal that they’re currently made in. Doing so will basically cut the price in half for said teams. Go check them out now.

You ever suddenly realize, “whoah… I’m an adult.” That’ll happen to me from time to time. Like, I’ll come home from work, make dinner, pay some bills, do the dishes, and go, “… I’m adulting the hell out of the day.” Life’s full of strange twists and turns and it’s different for everyone. So why not take all those different things that can happen to you and turn them into a dark-humor party card game? Seems legit to me. In the end, you’d end up with F-Life, which is up on Kickstarter now.

Society basically collapsed and there’s little left except those nations that hung on going to war with one-another over what resources are left. That’s what’s happening in Armageddon War, a new tactical board game that’s up on Kickstarter now.

You’d think that, after a while, people would start to take those that are warning about ancient evils coming to destroy the world more seriously. But nooooo. They didn’t listen to you. And now a city is in ruins and you need to work even harder to keep the ancient… things… from expanding out and taking over. That’s what you’ll be doing in Cities in Ruin for Eldritch Horror, of which, Fantasy Flight has posted a preview.

Busy week is busy. Lots of stuff going on over on this side of the screen, from proofing projects for new games to typing up articles about upcoming releases to… oh yeah… that show-thing we’ve got at the end of the week. Just a few things to do in order to get ready for that. 😉
And while I currently have Pantera going to keep me motivated and getting things done, I’ll eventually switch over to come gaming podcasts.

This week we have: Plaid Hat Games Podcast: The House on Carver Hill – D&D – Part 5; Plan of ATK! Counterblast, by Bombshell Minis, looks to recapture the retro-feeling of 50s and 60s sci-fi. One aspect of that era that they’ve not yet tapped into is the bits of memorabilia that goes along with it. Well, they’re looking to rectify that with their Lunchbox Edition of Counterblast. More than just a cool carrying case, it’s a starter set that’ll get you and an opponent gaming in no time.

In fantasy combat games, thinning out the enemy ranks before you enter melee with them is a must. You don’t want entire regiments of enemy soldiers meeting up with yours, if you can avoid it. In order to help out with that, the Daqan Lords in Runewars are getting some ranged support in the form of heavy crossbowmen.

What’s done is done. Or is it? The time stream isn’t as unalterable as we think it is. Things can go wrong that threaten all of existence as we know it. In this case, there’s a special stone in 15th-century Spain that must be brought to the future for study due to its supernatural importance. That’s the story behind Lumen Fidei, a new expansion for T.I.M.E. Stories coming from Asmodee.

Anyway, the Empire has a new weapon they’re building. Something called the Death Star. The completion of it could mean the end of the Rebellion. They must go steal the plans and see if there’s any sort of weaknesses (hopefully no smaller than a womp rat).

Well, we knew it was inevitable. The weekend has come to an end and we’re back at the start of the work week. Though, at least for me, this is no ordinary work week. CMON Expo is this upcoming weekend. If you’ll be in the Atlanta area, you should stop by and say, “hi.”
But before we get to that, we still have our regularly-scheduled posts to make. That includes today’s Terrain Corner.

As such, we have: Sci-Fi Scenery Added to TerrainCrate Kickstarter, Large Desert Building Available From Battlefront, Terminus Segments modular mat and District 5 Catwalks Available From Micro Art Studio, Heroic Maps’ St Olfryc’s Priory Bundle Now Available, and Cyber City Game Mat Available From Pwork Wargame.

I know it’s getting to be summer and it’s going to be hot enough, but if you want to clear out that enemy bunker, the flamethrower team’s a decent choice. For the British, they’re getting a new Airborne box set. Those that do the pre-order will also get the glider the troops will deploy from.
