The first action of the English CivilWar sees our hero engaged in a skirmish action in an attempt to drive the Parliamentarians back the way they came.

The Battle Of Edgehill, October 1642
Our attention turns to the first large-scale battle of the war, notorious for Prince Rupert’s devastating cavalry charge.

The Battle Of Birmingham, April 1643
Prince Rupert’s forces descend on the Parliamentarian stronghold of Birmingham. We examine the attack and present a tactical wargame using the 1644 ruleset.

The Flames of War website was updated with several new product spotlights and articles.

    Spotlights
    Flammwagen B-2(f) (Char B) (GE180)
In 1940, the Char B was the principal medium tank of the French army. Having fought against the Panzers in the Battle of France, the Germans were able to capture a number of Char B tanks after the French capitulation. These captured vehicles were pressed into service by the Germans as training vehicles or for duties behind the frontlines.

    Airlanding Light Battery (BBX20)
When the British Airborne forces were formed a number of options were considered when looking for a suitable air-transportable light artillery piece. Initially the 3.7 inch howitzer was used, but the more modern M1A1 howitzer replaced this before any of the airborne artillery went into action.

    Glider Pilot Platoon (BR808)
The glider pilots are attached from the Glider Pilot Regiment. After they land their gliders they are expected to lend aid where ever they can to protect the landing zones.

The Black Knight is proud to announce that the pre-orders for the Verminion warrior have ended and the new figures is now in stock. Thank you for the unbelievable response to the pre-orders. The Black Knight and I were surprised and excited to say the least.

Who knew that these versatile figures would be so useful for both role players (as were-rats, were-wolves or just beastmen) and wargammers (for fantasy, Victorian sci-fi or post apocalypse) were glad the response was the same from both ends of the hobby.

This means the Verminion warriors are available for the regular low price of only $3.69+shipping. So drop by the website and grab a cart.

Fantasy Flight Games have posted a new article looking at the strategies behind using the Latari Elves in Runewars.

    From their website:

One of the keys to maximizing your effectiveness at Runewars is knowing your faction’s strengths, and capitalizing on them early and often. Last time, we looked at the vile Uthuk Y’llan, and we saw a few ways to use their focus on Tactics Cards to their advantage. This time, we’ll look at the cunning Latari Elves, and we’ll discuss three important topics: initial placement, units, and Influence.

Before you can thrive with the Latari Elves, you must survive. As we’ll see below, the Elves are a late-game powerhouse… but they struggle a bit in the early game, particularly given their relative lack of food (they are the only faction whose food dial begins at two, rather than three). This must be addressed, as soon as possible, or you’ll find your first winter to be an especially harsh one.

The maintainers of the 40K Army Builder files have posted an updated version of the files.

    From their website:

General release 1.06a now Available. Includes the 5E Tyranid file, our usual bug fixing and patching and something new – testing trial of Black Templars V2.

We would strongly urge anyone who is intending to use this file to put this release in an entirely new folder or to delete their older AB40K folder before applying this update. Many files have been removed and or modified and to prevent unnecessary problems with updating this is highly recommended.

Apocalypse formations based on the new Tyranid files have been adjusted. Note that there are a few formations which have options which are no longer available or do not fit in properly without interpretation. As it our “mission” to provide the data provided by GW without such interpretation, the offending data sheets were removed and will be restored whenever GW provides such guidelines to bring these older formations under the 5E Tyranid rules.

Witch Hunters and Daemonhunters ally rules have been substantially redone. Now they use the nominal system provided within AB for their selection instead of their own specialized procedure. Note that the nominal rules provided in each of those codices stll applies, only the way of selecting them within AB has changed.

CLA_Cover.jpgRatttrap Productions have announced the release of a new edition of the Contemptible Little Armies rules.

    From their announcement:
Contemptible Little Armies 3rd edition is a set of skirmish rules for use with 28mm miniatures. The third edition of the rulebook has been reorganized with a Table of Contents and color photos added. Some changes have been made to the rules as well, specifically, the Direct Fire resolution rules have been changed to take into account a defender’s tactical rating and models hit by Direct fire do not roll for casualty status until the phase just prior to Morale. This will provide a slight bit of uncertainty as to the status of a unit until the morale phase.

And, to top it off, a quick reference chart of oft-used tables has been added to the back of the book. This should help speed up play.

“Contemptible Little Armies” takes its title from the Kaiser’s sneer at the British Expeditionary Force of 1914 – which of course soon turned out to be anything but contemptible. As the title suggests, the main focus of the rules is the First World War, but they are also suitable for many of the other conflicts of the same era, for example:

    • The Mexican Revolution, 1910 – c.1920.
    • The Italian-Turkish War of 1911 – 1912.
    • The Warlord Era in China, 1911 – 1928.
    • The Balkan Wars, 1912 – 1913.
    • The Russian Civil War, 1917 – c. 1922.
    • The Greek-Turkish War, 1920 – 1922.

The book is at our printer now and should be shipping by the end of the week. It will go on sale Friday, Feb. 26th. It will retail for $25.00. You will be able to get it from Rattrap Productions, Brigade Games or shortly thereafter at Northstar in the UK.

    From their website:?

On May 21st, 2010, Monsterpocalypse players from across the world will gather to test their body-slamming, monster-smashing skills against one another. At the end of this event there will be one player standing who will be crowned the world’s next Monsterpocalypse Master. The event will be so Monstrous that we could only give it one name: MonCon (guess what it stands for)

“Did he say master’s? Is Team Covenant hosting a master’s event?”

Why yes, yes I did. We are going to be hosting the world’s first master’s level event after the release of Monsterpocalypse Series 5: Big in Japan.

Alright, slow down. Let’s take some deep breaths. By now I’m sure that there are countless questions swarming around in that large, monster-sized brain you’ve developed over the course of playing Monsterpocalypse. Let’s start with some basics.
