Origins Award

Origins holds their annual Origins Awards every year during their show. The Voting for this year’s awards have begun online. You can vote for your favorite games in the various categories such as Board Games, Card Games, and Game Accessories (plus many more, basically every genre has a category). Voting will take place until May 15. The awards will be given out at the show on Saturday, June 6th.

From the website:

Each year the Academy presents the Origins Awards at the Origins Game Fair in June. The purpose of the Origins Awards is to reward excellence in game design.

The Top 5 products in each category, as determined by the Academy Jury, are announced after the GAMA Trade Show in March. The Top 5 nominees are voted on by all members of the Academy. The Academy vote determines the winner of the Origins Award. The Top 5 products are also voted on by attendees of the Origins Game Fair for a chance to win the Fan Favorite award in each category. The winners are announced at the Origins Awards ceremony during Origins in June.

Any publisher or designer may submit an eligible product for consideration during the course of the year before the published deadline.

Some of those nominees are ridiculous. 3 of the best historical miniatures rules are from Osprey??? Origins Awards for the fail yet again.

So, is this just an internet fan award? The name “Acadamy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design” makes it sound like this is a professional award.

Oh, man. Check out their nominations for “Best Miniatures Line”

      – Two of GW’s large plastic kits
      – Two large minis from Dark Age (CMON)
      – The entire line for D&D attack wing.

What on earth is the nomination process here?
