The popular tower defense series Orcs Must Die from Robot Entertainment has spawned three video games so far. Now, with Petersen Games, the Orcs will keep dying on your tabletops. On Friday at PAX East, Petersen Games and Robot Entertainment announced the upcoming Orcs Must Die: The Board Game. Technically, they announced two games: Orcs Must Die: Order and Orcs Must Die: Unchained. These two core sets can be played on their own as cooperative tower defense board games or combined to create a PvP game. Each set will feature a fair number of 28mm miniatures representing the games’ different heroes and enemies.

For more about the games:
Those who choose to be part of the Order will assume the roles of mighty heroes facing the seemingly endless onslaught of orcs. But those who choose the Unchained core set, will find themselves on the other side of the battle, fending off the so called heroic humans, elves, and other do-gooders. No matter the core set, 1-4 players are supported, and everyone must work together against the game as their chosen heroes go up against waves of enemies.

In an effort to defend their keep, heroes (good and bad) will go toe-to-toe with the invaders as well as set traps all over the tile-based map. Each set will come with several predetermined maps to choose from, but the games also allows players to use the tiles to make their own.

Those who own both sets or know friends with the other one can combine the Order and Uncahined to form yet another game where up to eight players split in to two teams and choose their favorite heroes from their respective sides to do battle and capture the other players’ tower.

The Kickstarter is coming soon, but in the meanwhile, here are the expected contents of the game:

The core game of Orcs Must Die: Unchained – the boardgame, includes:
