I’ve got a story that involves giant robots, so you know I’m excited about that. It’s been a while since Ninja Division/Soda Pop Miniatures has talked about Relic Knights. The game got off to a… somewhat rocky start. But even though Ninja Division hasn’t been posting about the game doesn’t mean they haven’t been working on it, quietly, stealthily, behind the scenes. No, they’re finally ready to let out some information about what they’ve been doing, complete with new artwork and model previews (and that’s where the giant robots come in… along with some guy in seafoam green pants).

Much of the update focuses on the materials used for the figures. Relic Knights was originally a boutique set of figures made in resin that hobbyists could put together and paint as showpieces. Well, Ninja Division is going to be returning somewhat to that. At the very least, the plastic and pewter are gone, with resin once more being the medium of choice for the figures.

They’ve also posted up a release schedule for upcoming figures. One will be out today. Others will follow in the next couple months. Along with those releases will be a v1.5 rulebook and a new 2-player starter set, following by the Ascension expansion.

This is great but also sad news. Relic Knight resin kits are amazing to look at and paint. The plastics on the other hand didn’t live up to that beauty. I was excited when the Kickstarter happened as they hoped to provide very similar quality for a fraction of the cost but what resulted did not live up to those lofty goals. I wish them the best of luck as they move forward.
