Thon is getting some new Fireborn. They posted some photos up and we thought you’d like to see them as well.

From the preview:

Fireborn are the finest soldiers in the Ordhren Empire. Covered in heavy plate and armed with IMPACT and Nailgun, the Son’s of Ord know no equal.

I was born at a very young age. I plan on living forever. So far, so good.

(Jaw hitting floor) That looks incredible. The meat grinder hand looks a bit out of place on such a high tech suit of armor, but DANG that is a fine looking miniature. Here’s to hoping it isn’t one of those boutique type games with ridiculously priced miniatures.

From a functional point of view, the meat grinder hand seems quite practical. Chainsaws, chainswords, chain-etc. have been done to death, but on top of that, they are wildly impractical weapons. This thing is based on a machine used for rendering meat versus something used for cutting wood. It wouldn’t get clogged with viscera, and doesn’t have a chain that is going to snap. Looking at it, and the model as a whole, I get the distinct impression that they are going for whatever level of realism is possible with sci-fi space men and aliens.

Oh, I definitely agree that the grinder is more practical than a chainsaw/sword, etc. In general I just can’t envision many situations where a meat grinder would be better than a shotgun or something (maybe ammo?).

Regardless, I think the model is fantastic.

The final production model will have options for the hand so the meat grinder is optional according to there facebook page

I agree. Close combat in modern/futuristic settings makes very little sense except in a setting like Dune with force shields that deflect everything but the slow blade. Still, the meat grinder would be pretty sweet against those Corpsehammer guys with the hot dog armor.

  • Wow. I look forward to seeing more of their models. The renders so far have a nice style.

Are there more than 2 factions for this game? I tend to stear clear of those games but the models for this one are absolutely jaw dropping!

Utterly gorgeous and then they utterly fail with the 40k weapon on his right hand. Looks like it would pretty easy to convert that awesome looking gun into his right hand, so I’m still intrigued.

I just wish the 40k visual influence on miniature games would just go away. Either make it sci-fi or make it steam punk. That in between post industrial rivets and skulls look is just getting old and silly at this point.

I couldn’t agree more, guges. Hell, I was fine when there were NO other companies making nonsense oversized chuckster angsty marines who fought more hand to hand combats than shot. Now, you can’t escape the meathead look.
