Mongoose Publishing has a new batch of Judge Dredd models available over in their webstore.

From the announcement:

Four new models have been released for the Judge Dredd miniatures game, all spoils from the Kickstarter last year!

Hitting the streets of Mega-City One, we now have Judge Giant, the Specialist Weapons Judge (with a choice of Widowmaker 2000 and Lawrod), the Space Corps Judge, and Fergee, King of the Big Smelly.

I was born at a very young age. I plan on living forever. So far, so good.

As a 2000AD fan I’d love to play this game, but just find the figures uninteresting. They seem low detail and are sculpted in rather dull poses generally. For the same reason I skipped out on their Kickstarter.

You might note that Judge Giant has been rather amusingly painted very caucasian.

Figs are wonky looking. Weird proportions and poses, they just look very dated. How can you hope to carve out a niche among the models other companies are putting out?

  • I have a few of these models and while they look dated to todays standards they fit really well with the old Necromunda range. Which is nice because most of the gangs from that game fit with the rules for Block War in some way.

What turned me off of this was the Gangs of Mega-City One game that they put out just prior. Everything about it was cheaply done, the minis were very bland, and although the ruleset had its moments, it mostly made me wonder why I should bother playing a Necromunda clone when I had the real thing. I don’t think that I will buy minis from Mongoose until they stop producing sculpts that look like something issued by TSR back in 1980.

Mongoose really has fallen very far and very fast.

Giant should be African-American of course. Lol
