Before our next gaming poll starts I will be removing some of the games that have consistently polled no results over the course of the current series of polls.

I will also be adding some boardgames to the list. Boardgames generate a lot of votes and I think it will be interesting to see what boardgames people are playing.

So there will be about 30 games removed from the poll so i you think there is a miniatures game or boardgame that should be added please post it. Games won’t be added unless they are seconded.

Start the suggestions 🙂

Can you post the new lists so we know what is already covered (or not)?

  • Zac

    Battle of Westeros

    Space Hulk

    • Tor Gaming

      I second Space Hulk.

  • pbeccas

VIctory at Sea? I have got into playing this again.

  • Gruntz : 15mm scifi.
The game is still in development but has playable beta rules for free download and pretty steady updates and new inclusions. I’ve been building several small armies keeping these rules in mind.

  • Whitetiger

    I second Battle of Westeros

    Cosmic Encounter

  • dlshocker

    I second Battle Lore

    I suggest Memoir ’44.

  • Shades

    Twilight Imperium
    BattleLore (seconded)
    Horus Heresy
    Chaos in the Old World

  • vegabond

    Gruntz seconded.

  • Veritas

Talisman – I usually play it once a month.

  • Vraile

    Conquest of the Empire
    City of Thieves

  • abbysdad

    Keep in the list:

    City of Thieves
    Pulp city

    • Zac

We are looking for new additions to this list not taking things out of it.

      • abbysdad

Ah, OK: second city of thieves then.

  • Grim6

I hate to admit it, but:

    • Will

I second Heroscape. I wish I got to play it more.

I suggest Descent, and the D&D boardgames (Ravenloft + Ashardalon)

      • Grim6

        I’ll second Ravenloft and Ashardalon!

  • inire

    Confrontation aor

    Wings of War:dawn of ww2

    Heavy gear

    • Zac

All of those are on the list already

  • Icarus

    How about Warlands?
(It’s where I’ve been spending my time and $ lately)

    • Zac

If someone other than Bryan seconds it then it is in 🙂

    • I second it – but do not expect aa whole lot of news on the game…

  • Been playing some DBMM 🙂

  • cybogoblin

Battlestar Galactica gets a lot of play locally.

  • No More Room in Hell

  • scarletsquig

I’ll second battlestar galactica, but if this is opening up to boardgames then the list could probably get massive. I play settlers of catan regularly too (every 1-2 months).

  • Your boardgames poll really ought to be a separate poll entirely.

For board games I think the following are important:

    Through the Ages
    Twilight Struggle
    Glory to Rome

    • More boardgames:
      Ticket to Ride
      Robo Rally

  • cyric036

I will second Memoir 44, Twilight Imperium, Twilight Struggle and Pandemic and Descent.

Should there be a generic Rail Games category? (18xx, Railways of the World, TTR, Railroad Tycoon, Steam, Age of Steam, etc?)

Also where do games like Dominion, Thunderstone and LCG’s fall?

Maybe some categories should be more generic: Deck Building games, Living Card Games, Collectible Card Games, Dungeon Crawl games etc.

    Just typing out loud….

    • Ken

I’d second Dominion, if this mention of it counts. Great game.

      • cyric036

Count it as a nomination please.

  • Ken

I have been playing some solo games:
    Silent War
    Space Hulk: Death Angel

Rather than list these games, perhaps an entry for Solo game would make some sense, as I doubt I’m alone on this. (Pun intended).

Also, would it make sense to add a category for wargames (versus boardgames), intending to capture hex’n’counter, consimworld-favored games (MMP, Compass Games, Lock ‘n’ Load, GMT, etc.)?

  • oldsalt

Are you skipping eurogames? My wife is addicted to them, so honestly I play them more than ANYTHING.

Carcassonne, Catan, A Game of Thrones BG, Catan card,

  • EasyEight

You should add the NUTS! miniatures game from Two Hour Wargames

    • Zac

It was in and no-one added a result for it for four months

I just wonder what’s gonna be the use of talking about the Boardgame gaming in detail on this website.

Plus, for games like Space Hulk, there’s nothing to buy anymore. So the purchase poll will not be easy to put in front of the gaming poll as it used to be.

    • odinsgrandson

Fair enough on Space Hulk. I mean, I plan to pick up a squad of guardsmen, chaos terminators and maybe some parts to convert some hybrids, but I can see how most people are done buying for SH after they’ve bought the box.

    • Zac

Plus, for games like Space Hulk, there’s nothing to buy anymore.

I suspect that most of the board games will be on the gaming poll but not on the purchasing poll. Boardgames might have a series of generic types in the purchasing poll but specific games in the gaming poll.

      • SHWTD

Totally understood, but my concern is that the gaming poll will not be in phase anymore with the purchasing poll.

Per se, it would be fun to know what boardgame people play but :
        – not on TTGN (out of subject, I think)
        – not if we want to compare what’s bought and what played as a lot of us must do.

It’s not useless, I just think it’s not the right place to do it. Plus it would dissolve the proportion of boardgames in the polls, as the numbers would be smaller for each boardgame and would not be significantly changing the ranking at the end.

Apart from sheer curiosity (which is a totally valid point of view), nothing justifies that in these polls.

        • Zac

but my concern is that the gaming poll will not be in phase anymore with the purchasing poll.

What do you mean by “in phase”?

not on TTGN (out of subject, I think)

Boardgames are consistently in the top three or top five of results every month. While it might not be of interest in terms of news it is clearly something that people on the site do.

not if we want to compare what’s bought and what played as a lot of us must do

I don’t know that you can compare what is bought with what is purchased in any case. Just because someone buys figs for a game isn’t any indication that they played the game as well.

Plus it would dissolve the proportion of boardgames in the polls

Yes it would. For the gaming poll but not the purchasing poll.

  • Seconding D&D board games and Pandemic

  • AT-43
    Stargrunt II

    • Zac

All of them are already on the list

  • Doc_Savage

    Summoner Wars

    Space Hulk: Deathangel

  • StorminWolf

    Hi first post here

    Memoir 44

    Urban War
    Heavy Gear Blitz
    Dystopian Wars

  • Jens

Ron & Bones by Tales of War 🙂

  • Zac

What do people think about having a distinct gaming poll just for boardgames?

  • abbysdad

Sounds like a good idea. It would be nice to see that data too.

  • Miniatures Games:
    Kaiju Kaos

    Board Games:

  • Mananarepublic

    Ron & Bones

  • Bobaxur

Glad Space Hulk is finally mentioned …
If boardgames involving miniatures find their place here, my choices would be Battlestar Galactica & Starcraft TBG, whose mechanics are wonderful.
