New Disqus Comments System for TGN

Hey everyone!

You may have noticed a slight change when you go to comment to a news story. Well, that’s because we’ve installed the Disqus comments system.
Why do such a thing?
Simple: To improve discussion here on TGN.

How does it do that? Well, for starters, you can upvote or downvote comments you agree or disagree with. This will mean that comments people find helpful will float to the top of the reply list, so they’re easier to find and reply to.

We hope you enjoy that and that it creates more comments on the site.

One note about the reply policy on TGN: You don’t have to be a “yes-man” about the game/product/whatever in the news story. You can say, “I think the thing the story is about isn’t a good product and here’s why…” all you want.
However, personal attacks on other posters, or making simply snide comments in general, will not be tolerated. If you don’t like something, post your thoughts in a constructive manner. We want to breed discussion, not shouting matches.

If you have any questions about any policy on TGN, from comments or to what gets a post, feel free to contact us and we can talk about it.

I think I like the new comment system. The one feature I don’t care for (the voting system — most upvoted and most helpful comments are rarely the same thing) can essentially be turned off with the option to go back to sorting chronologically.

One weird thing though. I’m checking out the comments on the “exploding kittens” news. The news header indicates 25 comments, while the top of the comments section only counts 6 (which appears to be correct).

    • I believe that’s due to porting over the comments section to this new system.
      Also, some comments were moderated.

I’m quite delighted to see TGN switch to Disqus! Now if only Faeit would change from that abomination of a system he uses…

Thank you for adding Disqus! Now I can put my foot in my mouth anytime I feel like. :p

Fine. But I don’t like change. Yet another random thing to register for.
