Necromunda Returning

I’d been hearing some rumors floating around that this was going to be the case, but it looks like it’s now officially being announced. Games Workshop, who has been bringing back a lot of their older stand-alone games such as Blood Bowl, has announced that fan-favorite Necromunda will be making its way back to gaming tables soon.

From the announcement:

Necromunda Is Back!

It’s been more than a decade since we last visited the Underhive, but very soon you’ll be able to battle it out in the depths of Hive Primus.

If you’re new to the hobby, you may not be familiar with Necromunda – or perhaps you’ve only heard about it from the fond memories of other hobbyists. Necromunda dives into the underworld of the Imperium, allowing players to control their own Hive Gang – a pack of ruthless criminal killers augmented with black-market cybernetics, gene modifications and scavenged weaponry. Where Warhammer 40,000 puts you at the head of an army, in Necromunda, the scale is much smaller but the action is just as intense – every single Ganger counts.

And it’s based on 8th Edition, so new rules.

And that is very encouraging. I really am not a fan of the original system, even though others say I should be because I am from that gaming era. This is why I didn’t get into SW:A

Ah. Yeah. For me if the rules are too much like 8th, it’ll fall into the same issue Kill Teams have forever been stuck in (well in it’s current “Skirmish 40K” iterations). Why play a game with single models from units built around rolling 40+ D6s? It tends to be boring or end way too fast, imo.

Honestly, what made Necromunda cool was the stuff between fights.

The systems for leveling and resource management were pretty cool.

The proper combat rules could use a pretty big overhaul.

“So, we’ve decided that everyone missed the boat on Inquisitor, so we’re combining the two. 54mm scale Necromunda! Here’s the Goliath figure. Look at those pecs!”

    • Cergorach

While there is scale creep, we’re not yet at the 54mm range, come back in a decade or two…

      • odinsgrandson

Yeah, he’s probably still in the 40s somewhere…

Color me very interested. Only four examples of figs but they look good. Might be the perfect multi-player competition game for our group.
