Mobile Frame Zero is doing fantastically over on Kickstarter and as such, the author has added in some new stretch goals for the project.

The author said that if it reaches 50,000 it will ad a Shock version to the game (an meta-RPG created by him) so you can customize the setting, create antagonists and such. It still have $11,000 to go.

I’m excited about MFZ, but is this an effort to get me to buy Shock as well? I don’t know what a “focus” is. Will it be stand alone, or is it like a setting, and I’ll need to buy Shock to be able to use it?

From my understanding, the Shock part will be part of the game itself – if you buy the rulebook, you’ll get it. It matches the usual pattern for extra goals in Kickstarter, and that’s what I could understand from the announcement by the author.

The idea of the game being licensed under Creative Commons is for people to customize it, and the Shock part of it seems to be just a set of meta-rules added to it with focus on giving guidelines to the players to create their own universe, factions, heroes and such.

On a second reading, you seems to be right. Seems like MFZ universe will be a scenario for the Shock RPG, present in the Shock rulebook.

I believe the author will sort out something for some tier, since the money IS coming from MFZ supporters, not Shock supporters afterall. I’m quite positive he will say something if the 50k mark is reached.

I hope you are right. I try not to look a gift horse in the mouth (too much, anyways), but as listed, it’s not extremely useful, especially given the level of success they have enjoyed.

Josh Newman has clarified that if the project reaches $50,000, he will give backers a free PDF copy of his RPG Shock (along with a MF0 setting or “focus”). That makes more sense. Yay!

That’s very nice! Thanks for the info!
