Jasco launches Mega Man board game Kickstarter

Jasco Games just launched their Kickstarter campaign for their Mega Man board game they’ve been posting all those previews for.

From the campaign:

Created by fans of Mega Man and the publisher of the Universal Fighting System CCG, the board game is Jasco Games’ love letter to one of the best video game characters of all time. We have launched this Kickstarter for two reasons. First, and most importantly, we’re seeking funding to make this the board game we always wanted to make. Kickstarter funding will allow us to use better materials, offer more extras like miniatures, cards, extra boards, and polish the finalized product, giving fans an even better experience and something that will be worthy of any Mega Man enthusiast’s collection. Second, we wanted fans to have a chance to show their support for Mega Man and be involved in this exciting process.

    Holy crap that’s expensive

Yep, and it doesn’t look like a whole lot of depth to the gameplay. I don’t think I’d be too excited about spending a bunch of money on a game without a lot of depth.

Yeah, cashing in on a cool IP, but not from me.

Weak game play, overpriced pledge levels, with stretch goals starting at $130 and so far it looks like only alternate sculpt mega mans are included. Anything that actually adds to the game play is a payed add on. And they went from 10k to 15k to 20k per stretch goal in exactly 3 stretch goals. Either they seriously over payed for the IP, or they are just trying to gouge an established fan base. Either way, I’ll pass. Not really a mega man fan, and there are much better board games out there.

I’ll have to agree, the game play does look pretty weak.

The $5 thing that they keep nickel and diming people with sent me over the edge. It’s not why I stopped backing it.. it’s just the straw that broke the camel’s back. The person posting for Jasco makes it sound like it’s a one man operation, quoted his mom on financial advice, refuses to answer any question that isn’t something to the effect of “is this KS awesome” and he’s been ignoring serious concerns people have while acting like he’s doing everyone a favor by running this KS. To top it off, there have been a number of comments made by Jasco that just really sound immature (not necessarily childish though there have been a few of those) and not like someone I would trust with $130. On top of that, the fact that the deluxe edition does NOT cover everything is insulting. There were plenty of people thumbing their noses at anyone who thinks the pricing on this is a joke.. and I guess that’s there prerogative, but this is a board game that is trying to price itself like a tabletop game. Moreover, the game started out with a laughably low number of Bosses with the others being added (possibly) as stretch goals.. and $500k before it’s pre-painted? Jasco’s only explanation to the costing has been something to the effect that manufacturing is expensive and we just don’t know what the hell we’re talking about. I’m sorry.. but not only have I been following numerous startups (not just on KS) but I have also researched enough to understand that when your order gets into the bulk category you are cut a huge bit of slack. The miniatures themselves are extremely simplistic to boot, so sophisticated casting techniques are not needed. I ultimately pulled out of the AVP kickstarter to make sure I had enough funds to cover this one.. and I am deeply regretting that decision now.

    • Yes, but now you can save your money for when I launch my Kickstarter for my game.

Expect to see it sometime in the next… like… 2-5 years. Should give you plenty of time to save up for the $10k pledge level where I just sell you the rights to the game. :p

        LOL nice..

Will there be $5 add-ons for the stuff that isn’t covered by the rights to the game and stretch goals to add the missing game mechanics?
