Guillotine Games and CMON Announce The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch

Well, the Kickstarter for Massive Darkness ended last night. And as has become tradition, with the end of one campaign, the announcement of the next has been made. This time around, things are getting steamy, as CMON and Guillotine Games once again head to the world of Smog. This time it’s with Rise of Moloch.

Character Art

The game is for 2-5 players, set in a steampunk England. Those that have played the previous Smog title know about it. However, this is not an expansion or new edition of On Her Majesty’s Service. Rise of Moloch is a new, stand-alone game that just happens to be set in the same world. It is a “one vs many” type of game where one player takes control of the Nemesis, while the others play as Gentlemen, who are trying to save the Crown. Activations are done in secret, and the scenarios can be done on their own, or as part of a campaign.

No definitive launch date has been set, but I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s announced.

An interesting choice to go the one-vs-many route, given that gaming trends seem to be pointing away from that and towards pure solo/co-op modes.

To be fair FFG’s Fury of Dracula was 1v4, and its an outstanding game, so I think there is potential in that niche.

Not saying 1vMany games are inherently bad, just saying the current gaming trends favor pure co-op. FoD is almost 30 years old now, and from an era when solo games and co-ops were basically non-existent.

          good point.

I was surprised when The Others went this route as well.

Loved Smog minis- although I always wished they were gaming scale (there were so many I wanted to turn into a PC for a steampunk setting).
