Wargames Soldiers and Strategy posted up the 3rd part of their Great Wargaming Survey results.

From the post:

We’ve got some more results of the Great Wargaming Survey. This time we take a look what gets to the table, what periods and genres are popular (and which ones aren’t), what scale or size of miniature wargamers prefer, how long we prefer our games to last and what size of game suits us best.

Comparing their numbers alongside the ICv2 numbers seems to indicate quite a bit of distortion in one of these sources.

The Great Wargaming Survey indicates that players are overwhelmingly playing World War II games like Flames of War (over 50%) with a distant second going to science fiction.

While ICv2’s numbers indicate that three of the top selling miniatures games are Science Fiction and no historical settings made it into the top five.

I have never seen Flames of War or any other historical setting make it into the top 5 sellers from ICv2. Fantasy, Steampunk and Science Fiction all regularly make appearances.

It makes me think that the survey put out by a magazine specializing in historical gaming has a skewed pool of survey respondents.

    Oh, well.

Are you suggesting that surveys are susceptible to sampling errors when representing larger populations? Um, hate to break it to you but…

Well, the only way to know for sure is to run the same survey in AARP Magazine and another in Teen Transgendered Cat Fancy Magazine.

    • waits for his next issue of the AARP magazine to arrive so he can do the survey again there

I’m a bit at a loss. Is that a magazine for people who fancy teen aged transgendered cats, or for transgendered teens who fancy cats? Because teen aged is quite old for a cat. Anyways, everyone knows that The Yarn Times is thebest place to get war gaming surveys done.

Its for teenage kids who give their cats sex changes using parts left over from the animal clinic. It’s all the rage ever since Miley Cyrus’ cat came out and got breast implants after electing for hormone therapy. Personally, I just read ‘Mormon Soccer Mom Vampire Romance Quarterly’ and ‘The Uninformed Male: A Magazine for Reinforcing What You Already Know.”
