Games Workshop has started taking pre-orders for the next of their board games. This time they head to the world of Age of Sigmar with Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire. The city of Shadespire’s rulers were so powerful that they told death that they weren’t really going to be doing that anytime soon. Nagash, however, had other ideas, and has twisted the city into a hellscape. Who will be able to survive in such a situation? That’s up to you to decide.

From the website:

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire is an action-packed combat game for two players. Build your warband, construct your deck, and defeat your rivals.

Shadespire was once a city of wonder and magic, a mercantile metropolis whose rulers defied death, to the fury of Nagash. This fury was made manifest in something worse than destruction – drawing upon the mysterious power of the shadeglass that gave the city its power, Nagash tore away the light and glory of Shadespire, leaving it a twisted reflection of its former splendour. Those adventurers foolish enough to set foot within its walls are trapped, with all hope seemingly lost. Yet not all will accept their fate without a fight…

I mean i like the idea of a competitive game from GW, I’m just not the hugest fan of fixed hex-based movement systems. I mean I know it solves a huge problem GW has, in making movement/range mechanics that are balanced, but part of me wishes this was more skirmish.

I don’t mind the movement so much as I tend to see a lot of power escalation with subsequent releases. It’s more or less impossible to field a competitive and fun party without constantly watching and buying new releases. The WarmaHorde problem, although it’s certainly not exclusive to Wyrd.

I am so looking forward to this.
