To get in before all the hate, I think this is cool. I doubt many will buy it. I certainly won’t be buying it.

It is a cool idea though and I dunno, I just like seeing them all presented in one place like this 🙂

    • I’ve been asking around the office if anyone will let me borrow $12k to buy it, but nobody’s helped me out yet.

It’s certainly impressive, though I think the full Ultra Marines chapter in the 2nd edition? Space Marine codex was a bit more impressive, since you knew all those models had been painted by somebody.

I’m guess there is no bulk buy discount on this, and actually it might be more expensive, knowing GW?

      • Tavendale

        Yes, that was much cooler.

The thing is, hate aside, and ignoring whether or not anyone is going to actually buy it – could anyone actually climb the mountain of assembling and painting 1200 figures + vehicles etc from a standing start? I can see people building up a comparable army over 10-20 years of nerding, but if anyone DOES buy it I reckon they’ll crash and burn within assembling the first 100 figures.

100 figures? That’s..like.. what 800 points of Orks?

    • That’s certainly something to think about.

Very honestly, putting together models is my favorite part of the overall miniatures gaming hobby. I love assembling figures. And let’s face it, GW has some awesome models to put together. Before I put together my man Friday, the Leviathan Crusader, the most fun I’d had putting together a model in the recent past was an Ork Fighta flier that came out last year. That thing was just fun.

So that’s what intrigues me the most about that army. I’m not a fan of 40k 6th edition in the least, but I’d love to have those models to assemble them.

And when I was done assembling all those models, a ship would land and tell me that I was the Last Starfighter.

      • Thanks P-Bear 😉 Much appreciated.

        • Waiting eagerly for the “chaos” version to come out (got photos of it at GenCon) so I can put it together. I’ve got a Powered Play lighting kit for it ready to go as well (the first time I’ll ever try such a thing).

I’m going to name it Monday, since it’ll be the sworn enemy of Friday.

Dude, you can blow up my Ko-Dan mothership any day. Where’s the KS for that game, huh?

        • In another dimension?!?! How many are left?

        Watch out for Zando-Zans.

Thinking about this, I started in 2001-2 and …I’m sure I’m forgetting something but I’ve assembled somewhere in the ballpark of 1000 models… over that entire breadth of time. That does include some 2 piece models from starters and skeletons and a few other easy things.. but the 2 IG armies and my orks have a LOT of conversions.. so that probably evens out. Oh wait.. I forgot about some one off units I built for e-bay and a chaos army.. so probably right around what’s in this. That’s a LOT of work. If you’re actually taking the time to clean the mold lines, drill barrels, flock bases, and plan out poses, then man… this really is an epic under-taking. You’d have to bribe some people to help for sure.

    $12K? Lucky bastards… $17K AUD.

Now go and check the exchange rate.

    • Guess what US$12K is in New Zealand dollars? $14,552. How much on the NZ site? $20,685.

It would be cheaper to get on a plane and go pick it up from the US. And you’d have about 4K left for a nice holiday while you were there.

If you reallllllly like Dark Angels you could just buy the starter set and left over Dreadnoughts from the 5th starter.. BAM.. approx $1440 for 1200 tactical marines, if you mixed out the Black Reach Dreadnoughts, and Dark Vengeance terminators, bikes, and champions.. then picked up whatever you needed on the side you could probably do an entire Dark Angels Chapter for 2 or 3 grand.

  • What, no Thunderhawk gunships?

This is just for a regular game now. You’ll need at least three times this many models for Apocalypse.
