Not too much wrong with the products, although there is nothing remotely original you can’t already get elsewhere. Problem I think is going to be the cost. There has been a few 12″ terrain tile products/KS recently and these look to be about 1.5 to 2x the cost of others ($150 for a 4×4). Buildings very similar to War mill’s MULE system except lacking shiny acrylic bits and landing pads. It’s also the same price pretty much.

Lack of a USP in a crowded marketplace.

If this is “upcoming” it’s sandwiched between Underground Lasers2, Deadzone wave 2/survey 2 terrain, and the upcoming Antenociti’s Workshop tiled urban campaign. As surprize mentioned the value at launch doesn’t appear to be anything show-stopping and the timing is just not that great.

Also.. $9 for a single shipping container?

Yeah the pledge levels don’t make a lot of sense, seems if they are genuinely doing this to buy a laser some ‘pile it high, sell it cheap’ levels of 10 crates for $50 might make more sense. My default position is sceptical, but pledge levels look like they match-up to what they are going to have in a future shop, rather than KS specific deals.

      • 4tonmantis

That would be the only way to bother doing crates at this point. Buildings are one thing, but conex boxes/shipping containers are one of the most common types of terrain I’ve seen. I don’t know that I’ve seen a laser terrain company who doesn’t offer them and it doesn’t help that any pledge level in UL2 gets some for free (it’s going to top off at 12 free per pledge if that one hits the 36k mark). I don’t know what the thinking is but I think the retail prices might be right on the money.

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only….logistics. Aparantly.

Doesn’t matter how far in the future, or whether its the centre of a city or a barren ash waste, someone has been moving stuff around in shipping crates! But how do they do it? No-one makes a laser cut MDF crane, or shipping office, or crate dropship. Now that would be a terrain KS I’d be interested in.

          • 4tonmantis

Actually, Fenris has a shipping crane, I’ve been eyeballing it for a while ๐Ÿ™‚

Puppetwars has the Dragonfly which now has a glorified shipping box (it’s 40 bucks but I think any would work).

Laser Cut Cards has a site office, various types of shipping stuff, including …you guessed it.. containers..

I’ve been researching the different terrain companies and what they’re offering for 2 or 3 months now. If you’re trying to find something, chances are I can tell you who makes it ๐Ÿ˜‰

damn I hate to be that guy but we have cranes as well

          • 4tonmantis

That’s pretty cool.. reminds me of loading docks or a garage.. the Fenris one is more like a construction crane or a big shipyard rig. Honeslty, I think they compliment each other.

…uh.. yeah.. I already talked about that one.. twice..

          • antenociti

            … did somebody say “dropship”?

        • What is UL2?

  • Gallant

So Kickstarter now exists in large part to help people pay off their lasers before their partners find out what happened to the kids’ college fund?

    • wormwoode

Gallant- you wanna elaborate on that? Back it up, even? Or just some hit-n-run type trolling going on? Just askin.

    • Daviddasilva

College fund? I wish I was that far ahead of the game, Try Braces fund =)

    • 4tonmantis

Kickstarter exists for whatever people feel they need to kickstart. If other people pledge for it, then clearly that is what it is for. Perhaps you have a preconceived notion about what it is for.. and are perhaps passing judgement incorrectly? This is the equivalent of saying that Reaper’s Bones existed to turn pewter miniatures into kid’s meal toys or that Mantic used KS to pre-sale Deadzone. There are non-gaming campaigns on the platform that are far more ludicrous (and somehow receiving funding) than a company that makes MDF terrain seeking to expand it’s production capabilities. I hate to tell you this but you really don’t get to dictate what is and is not worthy of crowd-funding. Sorry :/

      • wormwoode

Yeah, yeah, kickstarter is kickstarter. Got it.

Sounds like Gallant has a specific beef with this specific campaign. I’d like to hear exactly what the problem is. It’s poor form to randomly drop into a comments section and cough “rip-off“, without backing it up.

        • 4tonmantis

If he has a legitimate beef he should lead with that. His statement (to me) sounds like he’s saying that this isn’t what (he thinks) Kickstarter is for. Meaning, he should only be trying to fund things he couldn’t create prior to the kickstarter campaign. If there’s a grievance though, yeah.. let’s hear it.

However.. if you look through his posts on the right side.. anything Kickstarter related he seems to pounce on and attack. It seems pretty clear that he believes himself to be the KS police.

  • antenociti

They might want to remove the Infinity miniatures from their KS images unless they have permissions to use them… which isn’t likely unless they are an official partner.

    • 4tonmantis

Speaking of.. when are you going to stop teasing us with renderings of building corners and shower us with pre-paid goodies?

      • antenociti

Lots of work in background going on with multiple companies; cant say most of what we want to atm, but ‘shackles’ come off end of Feb ๐Ÿ˜‰

So, end of this month…. lots of news. Promiseโ„ข
