False Promises up on Kickstarter

Throwigames is running a Kickstarter campaign for False Promises, their old school RPG adventure in honor of 40 years of D&D.

False Promises

From the campaign:

Do you like old school roleplaying games of the 1980’s? Do you like a good mystery? Then False Promises is for you. It is the first book in a three book series, taking place in the province of Sivona. The entire series will take adventurers through Sivona and into the wild North of Darkhome, the land of giants and dragons.

With the name, I thought for a moment that it was referring to an article about Kickstarter problems (delays and dropped stretch goals).

But as a title for a dwarf-dominated RPG story, it’s great.

shudder That adventure hook is bland. Investigating missing ore shipments? I think the Judge’s Guild did a dozen of those. Then $15 for a 16-page, stapled book? Nearly a dollar per page. The cost from a local newspaper printer should run under $1 per unit depending on quantity and quality, which makes for a hefty mark-up.

False Promises on Kickstarter.. from the title you’d think it was Defiant games with a new project.

I still have a hard time feeling bad for people who lost money on Defiance. After the whole Wargames Factory debacle, investing in Reidy felt like sending my kids to a daycare center that shows up on the sex offender registry. It seemed clear what to expect. I’m sure his next company will be entertainment gold though. I miss the indignant letters.
