Explorers of the North Sea: Rocks of Ruin Expansion Up On Kickstarter
I wanna rock! … is a great statement for when you’re at a concert (possibly for Twisted Sister, but any good rock/metal band will work). It’s not so great when you’re on a viking longship and you’re out exploring/pillaging. Rocks of Ruin is a new expansion for Explorers of the North Sea from Garphill Games. It adds in salvaging from shipwrecks to how players can score points, as well as building and raiding Fortresses.
From the campaign:
In Explorers of the North Sea: Rocks of Ruin, new opportunities await daring captains. Recent storms have left longships torn apart, with their precious cargo scattered across the rocky shores. Meanwhile, rumours of great fortresses in nearby regions are beginning to spread. Will you be the first to salvage the wrecks, or will you throw caution to the wind and charge the enemy fortresses for fame and glory?
Components for an extra player
24 New Tiles, making the final map 50% larger
3 New Buildings for each player to construct
Salvaging Shipwrecks brings greater tension and decision making
Fortresses add more risk and reward when raiding
5 Player Dashboards for managing tokens and buildings
How Does It Change Explorers?
Rocks of Ruin adds new ways to score with salvaging Shipwrecks, building Structures and raiding Fortresses. When placing tiles with a Shipwreck, a token is taken from the supply and placed facedown on the tile. Players may spend an action with 1 Viking to salvage a Shipwreck. They will either find Timber for building Structures, Provisions for additional actions, Battering Rams for raiding with 1 fewer Viking, or precious Gold worth 3 Victory Points at the game’s end.
The Kickstarter campaign is up and running now. They’re around 2/3 of the way to their goal with still 20 days left to go.
