Deep-Cut Studio has a new game mat available for pre-order. This one’s an ocean theme for Deep-Wars players, or anyone that plays any sort of naval game, too.

From the announcement:

Our latest release is dedicated to all Deep Wars fans. The mat design represents a bottom of the ocean in all its glory and picture features high detail visuals approved by divers. Have a look at it at our FB gallery or website. We will ship the mat on 15th of March, until then all preorders receive a -10% discount with a code ‘ocean’ at the checkout window in our webshop. Grab it while it’s… Wet?

I guess this could double as a oversized used garage towel if you were ever making a movie about giant dejected mechanics..

    I’m confused…

Why did divers need to approve the high-detail visuals exactly?

Also, who are these divers, and why does their opinion matter?

Finally, what approved visuals are we supposed to be impressed with – I don’t see anything in particular on the mat?

There are like a bazillion underwater documentaries that show waaaay more interesting stuff on the ocean floor than this.. so these divers.. they are boring.. bwahaha (I went into snooty French mode for some reason).. Hell, I’d take the stuff from the bottom of the ocean in Finding Nemo over this..

As one of the professional divers consulted for the development of this mat*, allow me to testify. First off, have you ever seen the bottom of the ocean? I have. You’ve heard rappers say, “all up in this.” Well, I’ve been “all down in that.” My opinion matters. Here are some of the questions that I was asked:

What color is the ocean? It’s blue. Mission accomplished right there!
Are there fish? Loads! But, I wouldn’t put any on the mat, because they move around a lot, and players may find static fish to be disorienting. I know I do.
Is there texture? Some. Ocean texture isn’t like land texture. I punched a piece of sheet metal several times to demonstrate, and they max have scanned that.
Can I go there? No. The ocean is for divers. Everyone else should use this mat as reference.
What’s a good discount code to use for preorders? I’m thinking “ocean.”
Should these double as a sham-wow? Yes, but for licensing purposes, no.

      * Disclaimer: I am not actually a diver, nor was I consulted regarding this mat. I am *very scared of sharks, candiru, eels, piranha, stingray, torpedo fish, stonefish, other sharks, and those flesh-eating eels from the Borgias.*

“may” not “max,” although I try to live life to the max in all of my spelling errors.

Thank you Soulfinger – I wish companies like Deep Cut Studio would hire to write their blurbs; so much more interesting and so much funnier!*

*Disclaimer; I am not a professional diver comedy critic.

I wish they would too. It would be far preferable to knocking out eight pornography scripts each day. I write “They bone” like 19,200 times each month. One of these days, I may even sell one.

Well, if you ever do, you might suggest that it’s filmed on the above-promoted mat. It’s printed PVC surface makes it easy to wipe down!

You might even earn double royalties that way too. ;0)

It looks like a lame screensaver.
